Does anyone know where (or how) to perform quick-disconnects on a mash tun? After i've finished mashing, removed the wort, sparged and transfered evertything out, I want to quick-disconnect the mash tun so i can take it outside to dump the spent grain.

Any ideas? :)

Cheers

edit: errr nevermind, beerbelly.com.au!

Try T&S Stainless for Cam Locks.

I have also seen these ones you can get them in two types. One with the ball bearing lock and the other with plastic cams.

cool image cortez, lookin nice :)

pumpy - those disconnects look nice (like garden hose disconnects) but im worried about flow rate being restricted? they look smaller than 1/2" at the orifice... to be fair though, they dont look *that* much smaller, and they are probably a lot cheaper than the beerbelly ones.

The Beerbelly ones are nice but...

I have used these for some time but I must say the relationship is faltering. The suction from the pump is periodically drawing a bit of air in as the o rings are a bit variable. Yes I can (and do) put new o rings on and I can grease them but when you have the same prob two brews in a row it really starts to give you the S$%^&.
Wayne's camlocks are looking good. Along with some silicon hose.

The Bunnings brass connectors are aboout quarter of the price of the camlocks

It all depends on your budget

I use the brass garden fittings from Mitre 10 (No Jolly Green Giant here), the Neta Delux ones - not cheap (2x female + 1x Male for $30) but they work a treat with the reinforced water hose. (My tip is to heat the brass connectors and hose *then* tighten the collars on them...nice and secure!)

No issues with leaks today from the maiden run of my HERMS... only issue with the hose is of course the heat making it collapse under too much suction, but once I have my brew stand built, it shouldn't be an issue :) Or I could buy the silicone hose, but would prefer to spend the $$$ on ingredients :)

Cheers

When I was shopping for fittings the brass hose fittings were only a few $$ cheaper than SS camlocks (same bits as Cortez).

Sera, since you are in Brisbane try Tony Powell fittings Geebung & Salisbury. They were about $10 a pop. (no affiliation yada yada) You need 1/2" Type C and Type F

I bought stainless camlocks from T&S also. Two males fittings and one female cost me less than $30, paying cash. Didn't even think about brass when I found out the price...

Been researching the last couple of days myself and that sounds like the best price so far for SS camlocks.

hmmm, T&S looks very tempting.

sully, wouldnt it be easier to use type E? or did you use type F with a nut and washer to secure that onto your containers, like a bulkhead?

these polysulphone ones work very well too.

plus cause they're plastic they don't get hot.

Yep I got a heap of these from morebeer yonks ago before cb stocked them. I reckon theyre pretty good, annoying little cross in the middle of the fitting, can get clogged with chunks of hop flower etc. Well, it hasnt really happened to me, but I imagine it could :p

Plenty good flow rate, still easy over 15L/min with march. More than what I need. Still...those stainless camlocks look purdy :p Can we get triclovers our size? isnt that what the big boys use?

Dont use the actual camlock fitting as part of the bulkhead, set up the bulkhead then add fittings to it depending on application, if you get my drift. Just remember the arms on the camlock need to open fully so you need clearance between the fitting and wall of the vessel.
