Upon cleaning & sterilising my 2nd fermenter ready to rack, i discovered it has a small crack rendering it useless. I thought i might bottle straight from the primary, my question is can I use my dextrose that I usually use for bulk priming to individually prime each bottle, if so are the measurements the same as using normal sugar? Thanks.

Yes - it should be fine with dextrose (although I have never done it). The difference would probably be that miniscule you wouldnt notice it.

a word of warning with the dextrose, don't add it dry to the bottles as due to its very fine particle size compared to standard sugar it will likely cause extreme foaming of the beer when you put it in the bottles and you'll end up with more beer on the floor than in the bottles.

Perhaps make up a solution of dextrose as you would if bulk priming and then use something like a syringe to measure out an appropriate amount into each bottle.

Hope this helps

Nice thought sjc!

Hi SJW
well I figured that potentially all that fresh beer on the floor would constitute a form of alcohol abuse!

Liquid priming solution is how I prime all my brews.
Make a solution of your priming sugar in a measuring jug up to exactly 450ml with
boiling water. Make sure it's properly stirred. (Assumed 30 bottles, 23litre batch )

Get a 25 ml plastic syringe from the chemist, they cost about 80c.
Carefully measure 15 ml into each bottle, and give them 4 full tips
up and down after capping.
Stir the priming solution again after each 5 bottles.
And I don't use dextrose, I use 250g of brew enhancer 2. Works great!

dexy is a little different to sugar
if you use 10gpl for sugar, you'll need 11.5gpl of dexy, 14gpl of Honey or 13gpl of dme.

brewbooster packs could have all sorts of things in them like a mix of dme and dexy which makes it a bit harder to work out.

Bulk Prime, it's simplest!

Screwtops right, get another container and bulk prime. Other than going AG its probably the easiest way to make the biggest gains in your brewing.
