Does anyone do this?

Like say you were going to design a new beer but wanted to be able to try different ratios of ingredients without having to do a whole batch and wait for it to ferment.

Now what if you just mash the base malt by itself, and then boil it with the bittering addition of hops only.

You also mash and ferment different spec malts in their own smaller vessels.

You also have some base malt that is highly hopped at the 20 minute mark.

And some more base malt that is highly hopped at the 5 minute mark.

Then you sit there and mix it together after fermenting. Maybe fill up one of those plastic tallies and use a carbonation cap on it to see what the result is like.

Maybe this sounds like a pain in the arse, fair enough, but if it works there could be more applications.
