Ok guys so I seems to have done this in the usual process (kit-partial-extract-fwk-AG), I would have jumped into AG sooner but I wanted to suss out which I thought was the best way for me ect, and it was handy to spend a couple of hours at G & G in Yarraville on a Saturday to see that it's really pretty simple. well the basics anyway.
I ended up going with the 2 bucket lauter system which Lord Raja Goomba uses, see below;

I went pretty much exactly as per the docs recipe and did a single infusion mash at 66c I lost 4c over the hour, which I was confused by as I mashed in an esky, the esky seems cheap and reasonably thin so that might explain it...
Anyway the boil went reasonable well and apart from almost missing my brewbright addition I was happy with the process, I'm doing half batches for the time being in a 19ltr pot on the stovetop.
I was aiming for a 10 litre batch but I think I ended up with roughly 8-8.5 ltrs but i got 1.054 aiming for 1.048
I then cooled the pot in the laundry sink first with cool water and then in a ice bath, and pitched a couple of hours post boil.
Everything was going to well I thought, and I was correct. I forgot to put my fermenter in some sort of temperature control and due to the heat here in Melbourne when I remembered it was the next day. I took a hydrometer sample and measured the temperature at the same time 37c and 1.016.
:unsure: Facepalm!!!

Anyway was a good experience and I suppose time will tell, will bottle soon and just see how it goes. I'm currently making my second batch of the same beer as I type so I feel like I'm learning more as I go. Will post some photos of the brewday too.
Last note - first brew was done on the fly- this time I'm using BrewMate, helps a hell of a lot.
