has anyone used morgans master blend instead of steeping/sparging grain malts?

they say a tin is the same as 1.3kg of the malt equivelant.

wondering if it is better to steep/sparge your own or get one of these tins and use say half?

Do both for yourself and then you will know exactly what works and which one is better, half the fun of brewing is trying these things out yourself and experimenting with what YOU like better. Another person can tell you what they think is better but you may prefer the opposite to what they tell you! Homebrewing is a very personalised craft so its always best to err on the side of caution and do everything personally that way you know what tastes good for YOU and not what somebody you have never met thinks tastes good.
Hope this helps

+1, give both a crack and see. Personally, I'd rather steep the grains, much fresher product and a damn sight cheaper ;)

I used these a lot in the extract brewing days and they are a good product.
Personally I think the fresher the better so steeping grains is preferrable, plus you have control over what goes in to your beer, which is a big part of the whole process for me.

I made a number of good beers using those products though but if the question is which is better then steeping grains gets my vote.

As the rest have said, better than some other additions, but no as good as fresh grains.

Keep in mind these master blends contain various percentages of diferent malts. You will have to do the math to work out how much of each malt your puting in. Saying that, Ive used them alot and they are very good. I now prefer grain.
