Ok....

Go and buy an externall threaded section of pipe about 100mm long and 2 flange nuts. Screw threaded section into your T piece, then a flange nut, then a silican wssher made from a flexible baking tray. Feed this thru the hole in your esky and screw on the other flange nut from the outside. You will need to cut out the outer skin and inner insulation to fit the outer flange nut up tight against the inner wall

what about if I just siliconed on the existing washer real good? it seems to fit pretty snug on the internal wall

Silicon wont stick.

How long is the extender.

You really need flange nuts. Otherwise it will leak.

not long, about 60mm.

I'm going to give a metal washer a go, over the current washer.. I reckon it will do the trick, if not have only a very slight leak.

I'd keep silicone sealant away from anything. I used some in my system and it passed on flavours to the end product.
Definitely stick with the baking tray material as Stu suggested.

Flange nuts are your friend.

Over time with heat it will leak.

Flange nuts ARE your freind.

...and a silcon baking tray washer...

And flange nuts.

This is what I'm dealing with

THe connector is 30mm long. and its 15mm thread. The tap is half inch, but for some reason its all good.. don't think the metric yanky conversion is down with it too much

You need one either side. You MIGHT get away with just one on the inside. But I would buy 2

Plumbing threads are BSP and imperiall.

You have 1/2 inch BSP fittings.

BSP = British Standard Pipe.

It is the standard used in Australian plumbing.

So if i get a 15mm one of those ones, and carve out the wall a bit and slink it in to secure the internal wall tap side, will my tap screw on and be water tight against the flanger?

ok man, thanks, I'll give it a go.. When you say either side, noting earlier post, you said to carve out the external a bit more and use the internal wall for flange fitting.. is that the way to go..

It should. But to be safe, use a nut on both sides. If your hole is a tight snug fit you may not need a washer

yes

So an update - yesterday all my brewing stuff came in the post at once, so naturally I wanted to brew. Searched around for flange nuts, but could only find the lock nuts outside of a specialist plumber shop.

The guy at the hardware put me onto this pvc joiner, and it worked great guns. No Leaks at all. Extra length for the tap (made lautering slowly easier) and double internal/external washers - would probably suit any esky hole without any tampering - so long as the outlet is on a flat surface ( and so long as not on an angle)

Yeah, so if anyone wants a simple option for a Lauter Tun, highly recommend getting one of these fittings (photo below) from masters. It runs about $8, and the esky I got was $39 from Kmart for 44Litres, so not bad for $50 total.

They are a tank fitting, and will work with all brass bits and bobs.
