Hopsta, don't run your pump dry you can damage it.

Sounds to me like something wasn't lined up correctly, or that sound is generated when the pump is run dry. I wouldn't do that again if I were you. Plumb the pump up with some temporary fittings (I don't mean a bit of electrical tape, I just mean add your fittings so you can plumb some hose to it, prime it and then try again). Hopefully you wont get that screaming sound, if you do then something is rubbing-most likely from incorrect installation of the bracket.

Glad to hear everyone is getting there pumps, I know you'll be happy with them.

Cheers, Justin

Yeah i only switched it on for 2 seconds to make sure i could get power to it after wiring up the plug. My bracket is mounted the same as docs theres no protrusions or anything that could be causing the noise. It actually says on the pump......

"CAUTION for longer and quieter performance keep housing filled with liquid"

I just wasnt expecting it to be that loud when run dry. Has anyone here accidently let theres run dry before? Is it pretty loud?

I'll see if i can find some fittings and test it out properly today im sure it will be fine :beerbang:

Half your luck Andrew. I think I got out the wrong side of the bed this morning. I expected to recieve mine this morning (Brisbane) so I made sure I stayed home. The Postal delivery guy has visited the other side of the street this morning so I have missed out today. Sydney received theirs on Wed. Gold Coast received theirs yesterday and Bundaberg today. What happened to Brisbane??

I am not a happy camper at the moment. Arrangements were made to install a water tank this morning. The truck arrived OK at the appointed time, only to discover that my tank was not loaded.

I drilled a hole in my keg to accept my Bimetal thermometer and I just can not stop it leaking. I have to think trying a different bulk head fitting than what I am using.

They say bad luck comes in threes. I got mine today thank you very much.

Oh well, next week have to be a better week.

PeterS,

My pump arrived by courier, so there is still hope for yours yet, hope your day gets better.

Cheers
Andrew

Peter,

Take a run out in the car & come over for a cold pint  ...

Just got of the phone to Greg at process pumps.
I mailed him a couple of pics earlier regarding the mounting of the brackett.

The way it is shown in Docs pic below is how the brackett is screwed on. Just unscrew a couple of screws and mount it on the outside of the housing.

Also the way it is shown is ok for mounting but he did say that the motor should be over the brackett.
But it is still ok if you want to mount it like Doc has.

Another thing he mentioned that people may not be aware of is that the pump should not be mounted with the motor facing skywards as it will not prime.

Mine arrived by courier this arvo.

Thanks for organising this Johnno :)

I would have thought that those in Tassie would receive their pump much later than those in Brisbane though

Johnno,

Thanks for the update Johnno.
If thats the case with the brackets going underneath the pump body, then whoever made up the bracket bent it the wrong way  They should have bend it 90 deg the other way.

Doc

Found this piccie at Northern Brewer - dunno if it helps answer the question as to where the base plate goes...

I'm not a real brewer - I haven't got a March pump... :(

Yet. :p

Doc and others.

Another observation if I may......I don't know if you note that on their website most of their plumbing is in the vertical plane (supporting my earlier comment on eliminating airlocks when priming with exit at high point). If you orient it this way does it make any difference to the orientation of you bracket. (rotate 90 deg on it's axis)

Borret

Hey Borret,

The bracket it keyed to only fit as shown in my pics.
I really think that the bracket was bent 90 deg the wrong way.
The inlet and outlet can't be on the vertical plane unless we mount our existing brackets on the vertical.

Our brackets were made for us and are different to the March and Norther Brewer ones.

Doc , you are right there.
I just tried mounting mine as instructed by Greg and it does not go. It will only fit the way you have yours setup.
I will let him know about this next week.
I really wanted to mount mine with the motor over the bracket.

Because we are Down Under, upside down etc they deliberately bent it the wrong way???.

PeterS....

Hi guys, probably missed this whilst scrolling through the repies but,
Mount the pump where and at what ever angle you like. You can then simply unscrew the "head" and re-position it to flow vertical. That is the way it works with mine!

After 4 or more years I still haven't managed to mount mine.
Be sure to put a cover over the wirings as any water in the back there is sure to cause a short.

The pump should not "scream". Mine has screamed once which was resolved by adding a drop of oil to the oil holes on the top of the pump.
My pump makes that same noise if pumping or of empty. Have run it for half an hour empty with no ill effects (as far as i can tell). Not a good idea though.

Happy pumping

Darren

PS,
Unscrewing the three screws on the head is simple and there is nothing behind it to cause you any problems. Just make sure you seat the o-ring and bobs your uncle.
