Looking For Rauchbier In Sydney

Hi all,

New member but long time lurker.....

I am looking for rauchbiers in Sydney...

I know the Taphouse has Schlenkerla Marzen but I was hoping there are other brands or some craft beer places that might have a Rauchbier on tap ??

Any help would be most appreciated.

You'll be struggling. Even in Bamberg there are only two breweries that brew rauchbiers - Spezial and Schlenkerla. Fresh Schlenkerla bottles are available here in Perth in a few bottleshops, so hopefully Syd is the same. That is your only bet. Can understand your love for the beechwood smoke - its amazing.

Camperdown cellars on Parramatta Rd. Quite a good selection of a variety of imported styles - no affiliation, though I've spend so much there on single smallies you'd think I had shares

platinum has the wiezen and the urbock from Schlenkerla in the fridges

I vote camperdown also, but you are only going to be looking at the three Schlenkerlas that are ranged in Aus.

Red Oak sometimes have a rauch on, but I perfer a much smokier beer than they brew. I love that Schlenkerla Urbock on a cool evening.

Not sure if you get 3 ravens beer (Vic Micro Brewery) up in Sydney but they have a Smoke Ale. Bought one down here in Vic over the weekend and it is a softer version than the Bamberg one mentioned with the 'S' name (can never spell it).

Personally I'd love to get my hands on some Alaskan Smoked Porter but can never find it in Australia. Had some in Juneau Alaska some years ago and it was a goodie. The grain is smoked with alderwood at the nearby Salmon Cannery on their smoker there. Tastes better after you've ridden your bike out of town past a glacier to grab one. :icon_chickcheers: The ultimate.
