Hi,

I am an absolute beginner at the moment but as I am sure you would have all been like... researching every nook and cranny or is that nanny, I hope not!.. Anyways, I started brewing because I was given some homebrew from a work colleague and it was awesome so I thought f*ck if he can do it I can do it!! BTW - it was a Mexican coopers brew no fancy's..

My favourite beer is Little Creatures Pale Ale - I have brewed a Kit recipe from brewcraft and I am searching to make it simpler.

F*ck sorry for the ramble....

MY QUESTION:

Using hop flowers: How much? Preparation? ANy thoughts?

I am thinking I start with a coopers pale ale and add hop flowers.. and it will be pretty good.

anyway any help is MUCH appreciated!!

Cheers

Haven't done K&K for ages but I'd go with a coopers heratige lager or a morgans golden saaz.
steep a stack, about 40g or so of cascade and bobs your uncle. If you use liquid extract, boil some up for 1/2 hr and add a bit then.
Or try Amarillo for a smoother, better beer IMO.

Try homebrewandbeer.com Boonies LCPA kit Recipe...

DrSmurto is the doctor to see..lol

This is the recipe Tazman is referring to:

Boonie's LCPA clone:

Morgans Stockmans Draught
1.5 kg of Morgans (or Coopers etc) Extra Pale Malt Extract (Liquid)
15g of Cascade pellets & 10g Cluster pellets on heat for 15 Minutes with Malt and can of Draught.
US05 Yeast (or another American Ale Yeast)
12g of Chinook Pellets (dry hopped at 4 days or at rack).

If you can't get the hops from your local HB shop, you can get them from the site sponsors above.

use the search function in the first instance. theres heaps of threads on LCPA for K&K
here are a few

Does anyone else think that this will work well?

MHB has a killer LCPA recipe that I did as an AG and turned out spot on, i was originally made as a kit recipe though so it should be pretty close in that form. I don't know it off the top of my head but he might tell you if you ask him.

JEEEEBUS!!

What are you guys on? ... and get me some!!

I hope I grow to understand your advice but for now I will build my temp controlled fridge.... and keep kiting it up!!

Thank you guys, chat soon!

Hi

I brewed mine today with the above recipe.
It smells really hoppy.
I will let you guys know in around 3-4 weeks if it was any good.

Cocko I brew a lot during winter using the following method.
Get a large container lets say an old esky or other plastic storage container.
Put your whole fermenter into the esky plus about 15-20 litres of water with some bleach.

Now this is the clever bit, I put an aquarium heater set at 20 deg into the water. I put in a pond pump to keep the water moving around and all at a constant temp.
Making a warm moat around the fermenter.

There is no need to sterilize the aquarium heater as it has no contact with the beer.

The aquarium heater cuts out when it gets to 20 deg, maintaining much better control than a brew belt (the belt has no thermostat or control)
I got the aquarium heater from ebay for about $20.00 and the pond pump for about $10 from Bunnings and have been the best investment.
My ales ferment in 3-4 days every time, no hassles and no stuck fermentations.
The only drawbacks to this method are
Only works if the temperature is low and cannot cool the fermenter (not good for summer but great for winter)
Only good for ale yeast not larger

I find this system excellent for winter
and most of all its cheap and effective.

But a temp controlled Fridge would be great too.
The fridge that I was going to convert started blowing the fuse so I got rid of it.

Anyway happy brewing
Cheers

Legend, thank you for your advice but who is MHB? God i am ignorant, sorry...

MHB is a member on here. If you do a search for a posting by MHB you can PM him for the recipe. Or do a search for LCPA and MHB. you might get what your after. If your wanting simplicity, any of the above recipes will work out well.

That was a cracker of a recipe you posted above, it should turn out to be a great beer and will surprise you. I did a similar thing recently, except I used a Cascade/B Saaz combo in an attempt to make something like the Bright Ale.
My beer turned out a little different than LCBA, but I didn't care.

A note though, let it age at least two months. I brewed mine in January, and it took until March for the hop flavour to go from good to awesome, and the last couple of remaining bottles are starting to show some deterioration in flavour now.

Summary - Age for two months, drink it before it gets to 4 months.

Thank you very much... I also found the acronym page which has helped.

LCPA
For a fairly simple K+K that i've done and works well. Just finished a glass :p

1.7 KG can of ESB Pale Ale
1KG DME (dry malt)
150g crystal grain
25g Chinook
25g Cascade
US 56 yeast

The HBS said to steep grains with Chinook for 20 mins simmer and then turn off heat and add cascade for 10
This worked well, but after further research it is good practice to do a mini mash, there's plenty of help on the site if you want to go to the trouble, which isn't much.

I entered my last kit beer into the Gawler show last year, twas an LCPA clone and took out Best in Show. I think GMK and the Barossa brewers were the judges.

It was a mod of the one listed by CM2.

1 x Grumpys 30 IBU kit
1.5kg Coopers pale malt extract (liquid)
250g JW caramalt (steeped)
15g chinook @15 mins
15g cascade @ 15 mins
Dry hopped with 15g each of cascade and chinook
US56 yeast
