geez who cares about a little bit of extra gas, its about 3c worth. if you drink from a keg dont waste your time bottling because you're afraid of wasting a few cents worth of gas. youll spend more on carbing sugar/drops and cleaner and santizer and time spent on the bottles.

I would have to agree. all my brews are 20L just so i don't have to bottle. who cares if i get a beer at 5.5% or 3.5% they are all yummy in my tummy

Thanks for all the replies. When i said I wanted to force carb i meant the 'Ross Method'. As I only have a soda stream bottle ATM was my concern for wasting gas more than cost. And I dont purge before adding the brew either so I was concerned that even though i would give it a hit of gas and burp the keg a coupla times before starting that I may have issues with oxidisation when shakin the fig out of it. I ended up having a couple to many last night and its still sittng in the fridge ready.
If I put it in the keg I will have 4 days to empty it so I have a keg for the rest of that batch.....

Cheers Brad

Just do it brother and if ya want to conserve gas and not waste any do the Butters forced carb method which is what I do. Keg and crash chill, once cold say 4C, connect up to serving pressure, roll around for 20-30mins (make sure you wear slippers), serve and enjoy. It will be a little under carbed for he first 24hrs but then it equalises and its perfect!

OR I can take those 9lt off your hands no worries? :chug:  mmmmm bradsbrew beer :icon_drool2:

I had a feeling it might be this, or similar....in that case, it will 'waste' the equivilant of what it takes to dispense 1/2 a keg, plus about the same again, for purging....so given that SS bottles do, what, around 5? kegs (dispense only), it's about 1/5th the bottle, which is about 2.50 worth of gas underutilised. (if you force carb at serving pressure....more if you use the high pressure method)

Yeah Butters right again! ;) Used the high pressure method and it drained the bottle probably bout 1/4. No big drama though will just finish the gas bottle off making some carbonated water and go to W for a 12 buck refill ready for the next full keg will try the butters method next time.

Chappo I dont need socks... I got me a pair of safety thongs
BTW normally get 2.5 kags force carbed and poured with one SS bottle.

Cheers Brad
