In the immortal tradition from times of yore on AHB, I thought it might be worth having a central database of freezers, fridges and other items for holding kegs for serving draught beer at home (so not including portable setups, jockey boxes, styrofoam fruit boxes with bog, etc).

Yes, there's some vested personal interest for me, but that's generally when the better ideas come up.

The idea being that we all look on evilbay/gumtree/catalogues and see a whitegood that would do the trick, but wonder "are the internal dimensions enough, how many kegs will I fit, is the compressor line in an unusual spot that I will drill through, is the 'hump' in the freezer seriously going to impact space, does it need a collar" - those sort of questions.

So rather than being a "I'll show you mine" thread like "kegging setups" (insert Cocko joke here), this is more a raw data thread:

  • Brand Name of Fridge/Freezer/Kegerator
  • Stated capacity
  • Internal dimensions
  • how many kegs (and what sort of kegs - some ball/pinlocks are different dimensions) does it fit (and whether gas bottle goes in).
  • Other things that may cause an issue or be a benefit (internal 'hump', room for a top shelf for wife's wine, blows compressors every 6 months, keezer needs collar, lines for gas in bad spot, easy to drill through)
  • Price (especially if new).

Bumpskies.

I thought I'd do so, I'm noting a number of "what size" and "what configuration" for kegging setup freezers and fridges (and a thread on Kegmaster S4), so I thought I'd plead with anyone who wants to put some 'databasey' type info on what they have here, please do so.

:D

I'll add tonight, I run a side by side fridge freezer, easily fits 4 cornys and a 9lt with still room to spare, will update with specs.

Chuck it all in, slcmorro.

I reckon that it's useful. I mean, my last keg fridge was a fair few years old, and many will start off kegging by grabbing a cheap/free fridge from ebay/gumtree/classifieds/friends/repurposing an existing fridge when upgrading to a new one.

That way, we have a central spot that can be searched, whilst still keeping the 'keg porn' thread for those who wish to show off (or voyeurs!) :D

  • Brand Name of Fridge/Freezer/Kegerator: Westinghouse Freestyle upright Freezer, model FJ383
  • Stated capacity: 380L
  • Internal dimensions: W: 585mm, D: 480mm, H1: 715mm, H2: 1455mm
  • how many kegs (and what sort of kegs - some ball/pinlocks are different dimensions) does it fit (and whether gas bottle goes in). 5 corny ball lock kegs on top shelf
  • Other things that may cause an issue or be a benefit (internal 'hump', room for a top shelf for wife's wine, blows compressors every 6 months, keezer needs collar, lines for gas in bad spot, easy to drill through). Hump is in bottom back, so would only fit an extra 2 or 3 kegs is using the bottom section for kegs. I store hops in the lower shelves, and it has heaps of space to allow hops and some beers etc.
  • Price (especially if new), not sure, I purchased it as a pigeon pair about 12 years ago

Notes:
The kegs are stored in the top of the fridge, and the other storage is to the bottom.
H1 is the height from the top shelf to the top of the fridge.
H2 is the overall internal height.
The fridge from the pigeon pair is slightly skinnier. It does fit 2 square Bunnings fermenters on the bottom shelf, and one on the top shelf.

Are you running freezer section as a freezer? Or do you have it on a separate power source?

Or am I misunderstanding the bottom half of it being a freezer?

It's a side from the pigeon pair, so it is a single door, single cabinet all freezer (upright freezer). It's running from an STC to keep it at the correct temps.

The freezer side, as a kegerator. There are 4 kegs in there, but you can squeeze another in the middle. The hops are at fridge temps.

For my keezer I have a 300ltr eurotag chest freezer, I got for $400 brand new. It fits 6 x 19ltr kegs on the floor and 2 x 9 ltr on the hump if I wish..

It's probably not the most efficient thing out there but I'm only running fridge temps and at a guess would only cycle on every 25-30 mins anyway. ( for 3 mins)

Would the kegs fit on the floor without a collar?

Been researching ready made kegerators. So far found these:

Brew Haus Kegerator. 170lt
http://www.homeicon.com.au/man-cave/brew-haus-kegerator

Keg King Series 3
http://www.kegking.com.au/keg%20fridges.html

Potentially Series 4 (if it ever comes out)

(no link)

Keg King Keg Master Grand Deluxe
http://www.kegking.com.au/Downloads/Catalogue%20-%20Retail%20Price%20List.pdf

Brewcraft alfresco range
http://www.westbrew.com.au/listProduct/Kegerators+-+Alfresco-Commercial/Kegerators+-+Alfresco-Commercial

There seems to be lots of info on the Keg King Series 3 but bugger all on the others. Does anyone have any experience with the other kegerators? Particularly interested in the Brew Haus.

build your own and be proud of it... It will cost you a bit more (than a basic kegerator), but youll display it with pride inside. :D

Yeah would like to, but it ain't gonna fly for a couple of reasons, first of all SWMBO has refused to have anything DIY.

Just for shits and giggles
pm me if anyone finds one of these

No mate they won't just a fraction too tall, mind you the collar was made from structural pine, at 35mm x 70mm from memory. and the bottom screw on the hinge lined up perfectly with the original top hole for the hinge. If that makes sense.

And did I mention it was piss easy... Knowledge gained from here

Build here

My 420L chesty was purchased from eBay here. $599 + postage.

1050 x 550 x 680mm (L x W x H) usable internal, with 300 x 300mm of that being the compressor hump.

Kegs and 6.8kg CO2 bottle can fit on the floor without a collar, although I'm just in the process of building one at the moment with a bit of pacific maple. I haven't put all of the kegs in at once yet as I'm waiting til the collar is built first, but from measurements I should be able to get 8 kegs on the floor and 2 x 9L's on the hump (although I only own one at the moment).

It'll end up having 6 taps on it, so can condition a couple of other kegs simultaneously, and will still have enough room for a limited selection of wines and sparkling for the Mrs.

EDIT: Added extra detail as per OP
