I shouldn't do this, after all the shit stiring The Great Chinese Hop Buy 2009, one keeps their options open.

For all those not happy with Chinese hops, what about India hops instead

"Himachal Pradesh, October 18(ANI): Farmers in Keylong region of Himachal Pradesh state are reaping rich dividends by cultivating hops.Hops are female flower clusters, commonly known as cones or strobiles,of the hop plant, which are primarily used as a flavouring and stability agent in beer. More and more farmers are taking to cultivating hops because of its lucrative value as one kilogram of hops fetches the farmers anywhere from between rupees 60 to 70."

I suspose the same characters will come out of the woodwork if a Bulk Buy was done here. Now thats a price of

wait for it

$1.75 a kilo

Yes while we can say China will have definite Quality control, which is reflected in the price. one can wonder about some of the "quality"of the growing conditions in India. However, this is in the far North mountainious country, which is clean. I would give them a go at a pinch, trouble is I have a load of other hops coming.

After seeing family & friends talking in never ending circles then being reduced to pulling out hair, shouting, screaming, & swearing while trying to sought out mobile phone contract problems with various Indian call centres over the past 12 months, I think it would be a brave person indeed who'd undertake a Bulk Buy from India.
I know your f*cking good Graham you egotistical *******, but you'd have to hand this one over to "THE CELLARMAN" I'm afraid  . If you tried to communicate with them through email you'd probaly need a 100 terabytes of hard drive space on your computer and a full time typist!!! And this forum would need 50 times that much with all the various communication generated.

Just what we need! another racial vilification thread!

maybe we can organise a meetup to shake down some indian exchange students for info on hop production?

Your right of course. A man could go mental dealing with India. And I would NOT trust them on hop varieties, purness, handling etc etc. they are just not that serious yet about hop production. BUT is it worth the risk. I could land the hops to your door for $5.00 a kilo.

Would you take that risk

BUT WAIT

I have yet another source of cheap hops, that I may very well organise another cheap buy. I should be able to two a year, one Northern hemisphere, One Southern Hemisphere.

Just guess where

I had my first couple of Kingfishers at an Indian Restaurant and it's not a bad brew. Assuming it uses domestic hops then put me down for a couple of kilos.

BribieG - 2kg

Edit: I would guess South America or South Africa, as you mention Southern Hemisphere. Brazil? Argentina?

Yep, you got it in one. They are coming out of the woodwork, and mainly thru the radio show, I have been put in contact with an Argentine Hop producer. Still talking, BUT looking at $20.00 a kilo all up to your door. Some unusual varieties too.

BUT early days, nevertheless interesting.

WHO said there was a hop shortage in the world. ?????????????????????????

WHO said you cant get cheap hops ???????????????????????

I'd be interested in Afghanie *cough* "hops" *cough*

Yeh I meant to mention that, there are some different varieties in saffa land too, but for some reason, not too sure if they would be much chop

I am defifitly interested in trying indian and Argentinian hops
