G'day. Im planning on brewing a semi Coopers pale ale clone to have as a house ale, mainly for my mates who havent learnt to appreciate highly hopped beers yet. I would just like to get some suggetions on adding in a bit of flavour and aroma to compliment the Pride of Ringwood 60 min addition. I'm thinking a bit of Cluster at 15 and in to the secondary.
Suggestions and advice appreciated.
Cheers, Dez.

What yeast are you going to use?

Something a little more interesting to go with the POR would be Perle or Tettnang

AFAIK, POR is the only hop in CPA.

The big way to get a clone right - is to culture the coopers yeast from bottle and use that (with a yeast starter) as your yeast. The yeast provides the fruity esters and that banana flavour that's part of CPA.

Cluster will be okay - but it won't be a clone. If you are going done the "I don't care if it isn't an exact clone" - you may want to consider cascade and the noble hops for a bit of late hopping flavour - but it won't be a CPA. It may add that bit of citrus you get though.

Goomba

Yeah I've been reading all the old posts on CPA clones, just didn't want to bump them up from 3-6 years back.
Definately not goin for a clone, just something along the same lines with a bit of extra flavour and aroma at the end.
I was planning on re-culturing yeast from bottles also if this makes any difference to the above mentioned advice.
Cascade does sound good.

I'd hit it with 0.5-1g per liter late in the boil or at flameout with saaz.

Cheers,
Justin.

just add a smidgen of galaxy near the end and try a little dry hop as well. True blue hop that one.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I've decided to go with Galaxy thanks to Sunshine Brewer. Sold it with the true blue comment, makes sense to keep it all aussie.
1/2 gram per litre at 5 mins and the same into the secondary.Still open for advice on addition times though.

Hopefully it's a cracker, will post back here with tasting notes.
Cheers, Dez

Technically it doesnt have a flavour or aroma addition. The coopers yeast should take care of the flavour department. Gives you kind of a fruity apple/pear ester.
