Canberra would be excellent for growing hops. If you are growing hops for the first time,
it is a good idea to start with several varieties to find out which will do the best in your
own back yard. They are easy to grow, lots of manure and good drainage are important.
Hops need a long day to grow successfully (best achieved south of the 35th
parallel for viable comercial yields), temps are less critical. However,
hops have been grown successfully in the south of W.A., in the Adelaide Hills,
Victoria and NSW. There are brewers with successful yet small yielding
crops in Qld. It does not seem to matter about the quality of light so much
as the length of daylight available. Hops are native to many parts of the
world and different varieties have been found growing anywhere from desert
locations to 7000 ft. elevations.

Don't be so hard of the French stuff.

It looks the part, giant cones; has plenty of aroma, a heavy fragrant spicy thing is going on; and has excellent yields, it grows like the bloody weed it is.

Keep in mind Quarantine regulations are incredibly strict when it comes to the hop growing states (especially TAS).

Never used to be a problem as Australia Post wasn't into the business of checking domestic mail... now it's been a few packages arriving in Tassie from the mainland I've had opened...

Best to find out the regulations, declare the rhizomes and pay the $25 AQIS fee for inspection (they'll even often waive it if the plants are for non-profit use).

Cover your arse. Fines are up to $10,000.

I'd like a Pack 4.
I'm not sure I understand the pricing though ... is it $35 for one rhizome each of cluster and goldings?
And which goldings is it? E.K or Styrian?

I'm up for some too, any type will do! What do you have left?

Total of $35 plus $5 post and packing, all up $40.

...yours order was posted today :)

It's a Goldings ...the name is given to where it is grown.

East-Kent Goldings is grown in East Kent, Kent Goldings is grown in mid-Kent.
It's just called Goldings for every where else it is grown.

"East Kent Goldings are a premium hop; hence, the price is higher
than Kent or Worcester Goldings. The soil and climatic conditions and maybe
the husbandry of the farmers in that part of Kent make it a unique and delicate
aroma, superb for use in craft ales and lagers."

Styrian Goldings is the same a Fuggles, the name came about through a mix
up:

"In the former country of Yugoslavia, hops were grown in two districts, one
near Lake Bled in the Savinja Valley and the other in Backa near Zagreb. Styrian
(Steirer) Golding are grown on the border of Austria and the Savinja Valley.
By genetics they are true English Fuggles, which are grown seedless.
Hence, they are slightly higher in alpha acid content, ranging from 4.0-6.0%.
The beta acids are very similar to Fuggles, 2.0-3.0% and the cohumulone
is 28%.
The Savinja Valley suffered badly in the early 1930s from a disease which
devastated their (German origin) aroma cultivars. This resulted in a visit to
England to obtain and English aroma variety. They thought they had selected a
Golding, so they called it Styrian or Steirer Golding unaware it was a Fuggle
they had selected."
