Hi All,

Just after some advise on possible grain substitutions for the below. I am looking to brew a nth english brown and am using the recipe from Brewing classic styles.

I have done a bit of research and came up with the following (any suggestions are appreciated):

Special roast ~ brown malt?

Victory malt ~ caraamber? (is this a crystal or not??)

The recipe also calls for pale chocolate, I was just going to use JWM chocolate - seems to be a little darker, maybe I should cut down the amount?

Advice from more experienced brewers would really be appreciated

Cheers

I just had a go at an AG brown ale and used 500gm of JW chocolate in a 23L batch
All I can say is Ooops! I think 200gm would be enough

Hewy don't sub the JW. It's quite different to Pale Choc. If it's just an addition for colour, you could sub some Carafa special type I ( smoother than roasted malt) If it calls for a larger amount, you would be best to find the real deal.

I think I remember people saying that regular amber malt can be used in place of Victory at a pinch.
