Hey all,
Over the weekend I was brewing an APA with a mate, and just have a question.
We noticed there was lots of little bits of grain in the kettle when we where transferring from the mashtun. We kept recirculating until it was clear then back to kettle, only to have to start recirculating again when bits of grain would get through.
Not sure if it is a big deal to have grain in the kettle, but we thought as it would go to the fermenter probably best to filter it. So grabbed some voile, cleaned and sterilized it thoroughly.
Then pumped the wort from the kettle into the fermenter through the ‘filter’. We noticed there wasn’t as much grain as we thought but kept going. We then noticed that there was a lot of green hop sediment in the filter. We decided to tie up the filter and use it like a tea bag.
Unfortunately after cleaning hand etc, there was a slip and the hoppy goodness landed on the floor.
I should add that it was a double and a half batch, and there was about 160g of flameout hops added.
Have those hops gone to waste? Should I dry hop the sh*t out of it? Or as they are late hop additions will they have done what they are meant to do?
Cheers
Adam
