Hi..

Considering an order on the "The 'Falsie' Tun Bottom Screen" from BeerBelly (http://beerbelly.com.au/beerequip.html) for my 36ltr mash tun and possibly a 60ltr tun in future. Definately looks the part. Has anyone tested this out? Would you recommend it?

Thanks,
Dan

i just heard someone mention they were using one the other day and pretty stoked with it.

Wayne makes some very impressive gear!

I'm thinking of replacing my stainless braid for one of his false bottoms too.

Cheers,

Stout

Its in my esky/tun and is doing very well, averaging 70-75% efficiencies. I have nothing but praise for it, got this unhandyman into AG sooner than i would have.

Its also shiny which seems to be a common addiction amongst ppl here.....

I use one, it does the job well, getting me about 75% efficiency which is up from 65% with rolled up mesh.

what do they go for again :tolazytolookitup:

Looks great do you have any problems with the grain getting under it ?

Pumpy :)

Mine is a modified version - it has a bottom to it so no grain gets in as Wayne noticed my esky didnt have a flat bottom. I should take a pic of it

I had some early problems which have since been sorted and it works fine. IN the beginning it could get stuck, but just needed a blow up the pipe to get it going. I did add some plastic sides as my esky is also not flat bottomed (slight v shape), which has helped greatly.
Good piece of gear.
Between 75-80%eff with batch sparge.

Have bit the bullet and put in an order today, along with an Italian spiral burner and adjustable reg. Will let you all know how it turns out ;)

I'd be keen to get one but he doesn't make them in plastic :D

Received the new screen last week and my first impressions were of how good the quality was. A simple design with exceptional workmanship. All the weld joins were very clean - not a rough edge on the whole piece.

Got a chance to test it out over the weekend. The only major issue I found is that my esky tun floor isn't completely flat, so a tile was placed on the bottom to even it out. The run-off was very fast with no blockages. Made the whole experience that extra bit more enjoyable. Not sure of efficiency, etc..

Have included a pic of the flow rate.

.. and of the boil w/ the new burner ;)

As it turns out, I need to adjust the airflow into the burner. Check out that soot!

should you be sparging like that... with the wort free falling from the tap?

they look great.

I recon you could have got another liter into that kettle though...... there was still room :)

Ge i like the look of those chillers..... Im just worried about they blocking up with break and hops. You cant pull them apart to clean them so how do you know its all out?

cheers

hmmm.. not sure. What would be the negative effect of that?

Dan

Bare feet and boiling wort, ummmm a new brewer .

That's a quick fly! Boil looks good! Worked out your efficiency yet?

yEah i used to brew bare ooted and one day one o the bricks i had my kettle sitting on cacked in hal. The kettle didnt all over but i did look at my eet and thought to mysel how much un it would be to dance in boiling sugary liquid. Ive had a 2 nad 3rd degree steam burn that stripped all the skin rom my cal muscle and it was not an enjoyable experience. I wear leather boots when brewing now.

Note: The key between D and G on my laptop keyboard just died. Ahhhhh uck it!!!

cheers

Do a search for Hot Side Aeration, some people dont think it exists, some do. Some people think it doesn't matter before the boil, some do.

I have another question, stirring the filter bed while lautering?
