Thanks Doc S.

I wasn't able to get to the HBS over the weekend, so I have not yet started either version of the brew, but when I do, I will probably make one of them similar to your recipe above.

It keeps everything simple and easy, which I think is best for for my first attempt at this style.

How did your version compare with the original for hop flavour ??.

I have a can of Coopers Blonde and a kilo of wheat malt on the shelf, so I'm thinking of adding about 500gm of amber malt to these, and then following your 3 x 15 gm hop schedule. ( I like some hop flavour and aroma, but I dont want it too overpowering )

Cheers, Deegee.

G'day deegee

Hop flavour is good, not overdone IMHO.

I agree mate, start off with a simple recipe and then tweak it. Am yet to properly taste my newer verison using the wheat malt, its dry hopping atm. I wouldnt add the extra amber malt tho as the JSGA is a 4.5% quaffing beer. The extra malt will need extra hops to balance it.

Have fun

Might be a bit late deegee, as it seems you've got your recipe figured out but came across this in the recipes section, all credit belonging to jazzafish of course, sounds like the perfect amarillo honey recipe, just change the base malt for extract and away you go

Dave

Dr.S., I'll take your advice and leave out the amber malt, which will make it even simpler, and then tweak it with a little more malt, or hops or a bit of steeped crystal next time around -- if I think it is needed after tasting the basic version.

Dave, Thanks for the link. When the first brew is finished, I want to try a second batch with a touch of honey, and then recipes you and others have given me will help when I'm ready to lay that one down.

Cheers, Deegee.

leave out the amber dee gee, it's not a specialty grain like crystal so it needs to be mashed, also 500g is way too much it's very prominent if you're going to try it use maybe 100-200g.
