Hell yea you got too at least taste it. But most of the time i drink the lot.

You MUST taste it!

It's part of understanding the process.

Took a hydro sample of my Best Bitter last night 10 days into fermentation.

It shows me the progress of fermentation, and the sample tasted rather delicious.

I only toss out the first flush from the tap to clear the debris. The actual sample I always taste.

dang I thought this was going to be another useless poll... but alas no poll.

yes i drink my samples. im a tight arse! kidding. i recon it good to keep track of how your beer matures/develops flavours etc.

Yeah I tried to do a poll, but it didn't work... I'll try again tomorrow

And how many of you notice the level of the beer drop below the initial krausen mark.... especially if it's a slow yeast?

Just a wee dram during fermentation to see how its shaping up.

<_<

It appears that almost everybody drinks from their samples. Me included :icon_cheers:

It's also offered to SWMBO regardless of the time of day. Sometimes, specifically at 7am or so of a morning when she's still half asleep, its not always appreciated :)

I don't really bother with the hydrometer readings any more. I keg, I have temp controlled fermentation and I always give it plenty of time to ferment out (so no bottle bombs for me). I might test for a lager thats takes a while but thats about it. I couldn't care less what the %abv is - I know the ballpark from experience and what I'm putting in so thats good enough for me.

When I do take a reading I drink it though, of course. ;)

Do I drink my Hydrometer sample .

I just do what everyone else does .

I have a big swig.

Tear off all my clothes,

Run naked around the garden ,

Sacrifice one of the kids pet Rabbits on the wood chop block .

Mumble some secret mens business words to the moon .

Howl with teeth bared .

and then just creep back into the house before SWMBO or the neigbours see me .

That only just if the sample has reached its final target gravity

pumpy :)

I always have a swig or two each test just to help pick out the different flavours and aroma's........ it's all about educating my senses.
This missus likes to try it also, but I just put that down to her getting to taste beer and not get it herself.....

I don't take many hydrometer samples as i probably lost a few liters on my first kits....
I usually take one at the start and one after 2 weeks but sometimes for kits i don't even take a final one...
I actually don't drink the whole sample (unless it's really good)

+1 KGB .... plus lest not it be said but it gives me the shits for the next two days...ahhh here goes :icon_drunk:

definately have a taste, purely for educational purposes! hahahaha

make sure SWMBO doesn't see you, it looks kinda desperate :)

Drink no, taste yes. Leave for a fortnite on the workbench and invite the wildies yes, nuff nuff megaswill friend enters, has a few beers and taste`s yes

FG I taste only, I reckon I cant pick/taste/judge all characteristics of a beer, there are many I can pick but even between FG and carbonation/conditioning there is soooo many variables and hence the final beer is nothing like that flat 18 deg murky thing i sampled 2 weeks ago.
