Hi all

I am going to be doing jamils irish red ale soon and in the recipe it calls for crystal 40l and crystal 120l. what are the joe white or weyerman equivalent?

Thanks alan

You can double the lovibond rating to get a pretty close estimate on the EBC rating if the malts are only listed in EBC.

Weyermann caramunich 1 will get you closer for the 40l and JW dark for 120L

If you want a red red then sub some of the crystal with 200g Caraaroma

thanks for the help. i think i will go with the caraaroma and some jw crystal malt, also will carafa special 1 do instead of roasted barley as it is within the right srm range. ( it calls for roasted barley 300srm in the recipe).

thanks alan

i'd stick with the roast barley... it'll give you that nice red colour. Carafa has a similar srm but won't get you the hue that you're after.
