Anyone know if they are still on the shelves?? I've been to a couple of stores in canberra now and can't seem to find any scent free nappi san.

I use the woolies "home brand" stuff, scent free and works a treat. Only about $2.50. It is in all the stores in Western Melb, so I guess it would be easily enough found in Canberra as well.

JD

Woolies in the 3 shops I've been to only has the normal homebrand and select stuff. No scent free. We all must stink in the berra

Very strange. I can't even find it online. I used to buy the Coles version all the time

With only about 30% Sodium Percarbonate, the cheaper nappy sanitisers still work out dearer than buying 100% Perc without all the added fillers and ****. However they are ok if you can't get the real stuff.
It's a pity that LHBS don't seem to stock Perc, as it would be a good little earner if more brewers knew about it.

I was at keg king two days ago and happened to notice they sell 1kg of sodium perc for $9.95, definetely cheaper than going to the supermarket and paying $7 for the 30% stuff

Agreed I usually get sodium perc but am out. This was going to be a tweener till I can get some more. Will just have to wait I guess. But what about those poor people with sensitive skin?

I grabbed 5kg of sodium perc off eBay a few weeks ago when I ran out of aldi napisan.

$20 + $10 shipping which I though was pretty good.

Beer belly (no affiliation) sell 1 kg 100% Perc for $5 plus postage or 5kg for $25
or 25kg for $99!!! (If you think you may need that much  )

I recommend this too. Buy it by the kilo off ebay. Its 98% Sodium Percarbonate.

In case others stumble across this thread in search of emergency sodium perc, don't go to Coles. I just got this email after enquiring about their Coles brand sensitive soaker.

..After receiving your request, we contacted our Merchandise Team and wish to advise that this product has unfortunately been deleted from our range nationwide. We are sorry that we are unable to assist you on this occasion and do hope you will accept our apologies for any frustration this may cause you.....

+1 on sodium perc. I used the the nappy soaker but 100% sp leaves it for dead. I got the 5kg from eBay. I think I'll 20kg next time since my Mrs. Has discovered it too lol

:icon_offtopic: :icon_offtopic:Typical of Coles. Last year they deleted Lard and Dripping - two healthy fats we have been eating for millenia and no doubt to be replaced on the shelves with GMO seed oil infested rancid products, don't get me fucken started.

So I emailed Coles and got exactly the same fluff email back. Upfront they boast that they are better than Aldi because they stock 40,000 lines whilst Aldi only do around 2,500. However in the background they are deleting as many lines as possible and replacing a lot of them with their own brand generics.

In Old Bar I shopped at the (admittedly small format) local Coles that was very handy but on one large shop of maybe 30 items, all of a sudden I couldn't get the following items that I've been buying from Coles literally for years.

Ricotta by the wedge from the deli
Streaky bacon
Psyllium husk
Oat bran
Polenta, dear to the heart of any serious brewer
lard or fecking dripping
Any toilet air spray that wasn't Coles vanilla. Literally no airwick or anything on the shelves

I fronted the manager and said "look I realise that most of that list isn't available from Aldi either, that's not the point. I'll now have to go into Taree and I know full well I can get all those specialist items from Woolies, so if I'm driving 18K into town I might just do the bulk at Aldi, cherrypick my Ricotta etc at Woolies or at GoVita for the grains, and the savings will pay for my petrol and much more. You need to decide whether you are a discount value supermarket or a full service supermarket, you seem to be falling between two stools.

Gillian, who's an ok lady, sympathised .. of course she is bound by company policy. It will be interesting to see what the supermarket landscape looks like in five years time.

end rant.

Meanwhile back on topic:

Perc tip of the day

I have a collection of Schott bottles 1L and 500ml and use one or two to collect wort over and above what goes into the no chill cube. I did a brew on Sunday and collected a litre, and put bottle on floor next to cubez.
I couldn't get round to pitching until today and this morning the 1L already had a ring of krausen on top. Bugger.

On checking my collection they were all sparkling crystal clean to the appearance. But I put half a tsp of perc in each, filled with hot water and you should have seen the frothing and volcanic action.
Now they are clean.
recommended.

also don't forget to do the lids in a separate bowl.

Have been buying "Vanish - NapiSan" from Gungahlin Coles for years. Not scented; 25.7% SP. Works for me. i.e. fermenters

Cheers
