Hi All,
I have been using kits and bits for most of my brewing and want to try a few recipies using malt extracts only with no hopped kit malt used in my brew.
wondering if someone can tell me the conversion of 1.7kg liquid malt extract (say from a normal kit) into DME

this way I can add the bitterness and hop flavours that I want to use and not have to try to combat the flavours from the kit

any help appreciated

Cheers

Couldn't agree more. IanH's spreadsheet is fantastic. It looks complex but using it is bery simple once you have worked it out.

Then just play with the different hop types. There are many websites describing what hop does what (bittering/aroma). Like this one:

thanks for all the feedback, have downloaded the spreadsheet and made copy of the hops table supplied

1 Kg dry malt extract = 1.25 Kg liquid malt extract therefore
1.7 Kg liquid malt extract = 1.36 Kg dry malt extract.
