Hi All,

I have been trying to get my hands on some Wyeast 1469 and I can't seem to find any retailers that have it in stock. Does anyone know where I can get it from?

Is anyone in the Sydney area able to donate some harvested 1469 for a good cause :icon_cheers: ?

Cheers,
Gruntus.

Hi mate, if you can wait a few days I can spin one up from a slant I have here.
Will take a few days though to get it up to a pitching amount, or you can have a slant and bring it up yourself if you like.

wow....cheers MCT

I have never done a starter from a slant before....I would be keen to give it a go myself but would be concerned that I might f#@$ it up.

No worries mate, if your keen enough to come out to Campbelltown to pick it up I'll get it started today.

I don't usually go that far on my holidays !!!!!

Don't start on it yet....I'll see if their are any other (more local) brewers as generous as yourself.

How long does it take to get up to pitching amount?

1469 is a West Yorkshire yeast suited to the Stone Square system of brewing. If you can't get onto a supply, another Wyeast that is very similar is Ringwood which comes from the old Hull Brewery in the East of Yorkshire. It has the same flocculating and top cropping characteristics as 1469 and likes to be aerated during primary etc, turns out a bit more fruity and estery than 1469 but makes a great smooth Yorkshire Bitter.

I have a tube full of wlp002 english ale, which is fairly similar if you would like it..

did a bit of a search....found that this question has been asked a few time before.....doooh

How did your Landlord end up with the WLP002 Yeast?

turned out great.. but not really much like TT landlord IMO. I think its a bit too dry.. Still a really good beer though.. me and my mates have been ripping through it

I have a Dr Smurtos TTL clone on tap - using 1968 - which I would think would be closer to 1469 than Ringwood.

What's the closest White Labs yeast to the 1469....does one exist?

Is it closer than the 1968?

I have some 1469 if you're interested. You'll need to do a starter, but you'll only need to do one step.

Gruntus,

The Whitelabs Platinum releases for Sept & Oct 09 include:

WLP037 Yorkshire Square Ale Yeast
This yeast produces a beer that is malty, but well-balanced. Expect flavors that are toasty with malt-driven esters. Highly flocculent and good choice for English pale ales, English brown ales, and mild ales.
Attenuation: 68-72%
Flocculation: High
Optimum Fermentation Temperature: 65-70F
Alcohol Tolerance: Medium-High

You may like to give that a go.
