whilst browsing the whitelabs site i found this handy file that details each whitelabs belgian yeast strain.
it looks good and may be quite handy for a few brewers out there.

That's a very helpful chart Bobby. I used it yesterday to pitch a trappist ale yeast and I'll keep it in the medium fermentation range for the profile I'm after.

Two main regions to Belgium, the 'Flanders' and the 'Waloons'. Waloons speak Flemmish, a french belgian hybrid, and the Flanders speak a dutch belgian mix (dunno the name, my grandmother spoke flemmish).

Its like an interstate rivalry - both hate each other until YOU pick on one of them and they unite in brotherhood.

Now I have read the wikipedia info of this debate I am more confused with it than ever.

My poor old Granny was hard enough to understand at the best of times, she grew up in Belguim and then moved to Glasgow...

Ever tried to understand that combo??? (you had to grow up with it)

From my memory of what I was told over several Leffers when I was there for work a few years back, the Duch side, many years ago, did a bit of ethnic cleansing where they made the villages say 'Spear and Shield' in dutch. Only the Dutch speakers could get their tounges around it.

seems to be some confusion here, for the record:

in the north

Place: Flanders
People: Flemings
Language: Flemish (pretty much Dutch)

in the south

Place: Wallonia
People: Walloons
Language: French

and in Brussels they are independent but mostly speak French.
