Hi guys just wondering what size beer line would be better 6mm or 8 mm thanks

8mm beer line?? Beer line is usually referred to by the inner diameter. Standard beer line in a home situation typically has an outer diameter of 8mm and varying inner diameters (4, 5 or 6 mm). The 8mm OD allows it to be used with John Guest fittings. The narrower the ID the shorter your beer line needs to be. I prefer 5mm ID beer line over 4mm because 4mm is a pita to get onto barbed fittings. What is your set-up? That may help people give you a better answer. Keg king has some details about beer line length, serving pressures, temps and diameters that you may find helpful.http://www.kegking.com.au/balancing%20your%20keg%20system.html

I haven't bought one yet was looking at a tap online and it said it could be used with 6mm line if you heat it up or 8mm with a clamp just sussing it all out first

A link to the tap you are looking at would help.

I've got that exact tap from those exact people. I bought one of their starter packs when I got into kegging a couple of years ago.
I use 5mm ID (Inside Diameter) which is 8mm OD (Outside Diameter) on that tap (line sourced from keg king).
You'll need a cup of hot water to soften the line but you can get it on.

That has a pretty standard fitting. You could stretch a 5mm or 6mm ID beer line over that with hot water and pliers, or buy a john guest fitting.

3m of 5mm (ID) x 8mm(OD) will get you there in most systems. Allows sufficient line length to provide enough peripheral resistance in the line so you won't have fobbing issues.

Also do you use the same line for the gas or is it different

The inner diameter is not of any significance for gas. So yes you can use the same line although you may find 6mm ID line a little easier to put on a barb.
