Can anyone from SA or others recomend any brew pubs/ micro breweries etc in the Barossa /Clare valley region?
I have the opportunity to do a few days touring in that area and would like to compensate the winery visits that we have to do with the women with some tasting of some fine ales.
We plan to start at -you guessed it - Grumpys and then cruise on to the Barossa after that.
We are open to any deviation from our journey if a micro brewery or brew pub is worth visiting.
We plan to spend a few days so we have some time up our sleeves.
Any comments / help, will be appreciated.
Cheers and thanks

OK - come from Grumpys and detor to Springton for lunch/dinner at the Balcksmiths restaurant - owned and run by a BBC Memeber.
Winerie called Povety hill behind teh restaurant makes excellent wine at really good value.

Then from there over to Lyndoch - BrewInn is always good...

Send steven from the Chataeu Yaldara - hes the brewer - an e-mail - they make the beer Bee Sting there - visit after the BrewInn.

Then make your way to Greenock and drop in to see Darryl Trinnie - another BBC Memeber and owns/runs Barossa Brewing Company - he runs his brewery from the old wheat store in Greenock....
All his beers are on tap at the local pub and tasting is availble from Daryyl himself on site.

I can also recomend some good wineries if u want some to visit.
Also have a caravan if u need a plce to stay...

Feel free to shop at GMKenterprises while you are there.

Hi Ken,
As usual you have come to the rescue. Top info.
My wife is in the background as I read your post aloud, and she is asking for a list of the wineries that you may recommend.
Thanks for the offer of the caravan, however we are travelling with a group and we plan to stay at commercial accommodation providers.
I will be shopping at GMK's as soon as the new place is finished and my bar and its serving equipment wil be my first priority.
Cheers Ken,

i can recommend grant burge for a great muscat

Too easy mate...

What sort of wines do you like,

Big Reds, whites, fortifieds, different unique varieties.

Let me know and i will recommend some.

Ken,
The wines will be mainly for the women, although at times I am partial to a dry white or a good cab sav or even a merlot depending on my mood and what may be on the menu.
Send me your recommendations based on this info and I will throw it into the ring with the group for discussion.
This thread is probably boring the crap out of most on here so send me a PM if you can.
Cheers
Geoff

unique alternative wine places:
- Chateau Dorien - meads and fortifieds - light rose type reds.
- Kellermiester for Sable )Chocolate port really good) and some uniue German styles - eg aulderwies, pink fire.
- Kies in Lyndoch for white musca

Reds:
- Povety Hill in Springton
- Cimiicky wines just out of Lyndoch
- Turkey Flat
- Yalumba - try the Octavius Shiraz

Good Reds and whites:
- St Hallets
- Grant Burge
- Yalumba

Hope this helps you out.

Thanks Gmk, and thanks to Tangent for the PM, all info has been helpful.

My apologies to the admin and mods if this is in the wrong topic, I wasn't sure if it should go into pub reviews or not.
Feel free to move it or delete it if you fell it is necessary.
Cheers

Don't forget the Angaston Butcher for the best wurst and black pudding. Might seem a little crasse but take a container to Grant Burge back door for your Muscat and Port at great P/Ltr prices.

Wish I was back there at present and not in steamy North QLD.

Cheers

Thanks Screwtop,
With all this info we will be going hard to fit it all in to the short time that we have available, but i recon we will have fun trying. :D
Cheers

after today, i can absolutely recommend a visit to Greenock (Barossa Brewing Co) and at least a 6 pack of the lager (hop me!) and also the best damn wheat beer I've tasted in ages. That wheat beer has a nose like a roman. No sour dishwater here. I'd go as far as it's rekindled my faith in brewing a decent wheat ale.

Definitely worth a go, and a top bloke running the show.

no affiliation etc.

Hi Dicko,
FYI Grumpy's does lunch Fri, Sat and Sunday and dinner every day from 6pm. Just in case you bowl in today with your BBB rumbling :).

On tap again is the Biggles ESB and the Genuine Pale Ale is flying along.

See youse soon.

Hi tdh,
We plan to partake of your fine food and beverages on the evening of Thursday 6th April and I am looking forward to it.

Hi Tangent,
The BBC in Greenoch is high on my list of priorities also, there has certainly been some good reports on the place.

This list is getting longer by the day. We may need more time to cover it all.

Cheers
