does anyone have any good suggestions for a lager? tomorrow night is brew night and im after a lager thats i guess a common beer. nice to drink but mainstream beer flavor? when i say mainstream i guess i mean no crazy over powering flavors. just a beer most people will enjoy.

cheers

I don't make lagers much myself but Morgans Blue Mountain Lager seems to have a very good name if you're just after a straight kit. Dunno if the yeast is genuine lager or not but the temps on the tin should give you a clue.

If you don't have decent temperature control for your yeast (lager yeast needs to be at about 10c), you can try a yeast like US-05 for a nice clean ale. For a kit based brew just a Coopers Draught + BE2 + US05 (and try to keep the temperature down around 20c) will be perfectly drinkable, or the Morgans kit (as suggested by bum) has a lot of good feedback. For a bit of extra flavour like a mainstream "premium" lager you could use some finishing hops (Hallertau would be a nice example), the teabag style steeped in some hot water will work fine.

Two of my favourites are Morgans Charmans Selection Cortes Cervesa and Morgans Blue Mountains Larger. The Cervesa comes out a cracker when brewed as a larger and largered for 21 days at -2 to 2 degrees and the Larger is near bullit proof with the yeast under the lid but will be better for using w 34/70 and largered as well.

Just my two dracma

nice one. I think ill give the morgans blue mountains larger a crack. if i upgrade the yeast what should i get. at the moment ive got another fermenter going in my fridge which is a week in running at 11 deg in my fridge. would this be a good temp to put it in? also any hops for that as well or does just the can come up nice?

Nothing wrong with the coopers premium euro lager....aslong as u have temp control.

Takes 2-3months in the bottle to mature. As most real lagers can do.

Black Rock "Dry Lager" is a nice drop with some light malt added Even Coopers Lager will do well with some Light malt and W34/70 yeast.....lots of Lagering needed tho
