Hopsdirect in USA is selling Amarillo hop pellets for $24 per Kilo. Do the conversion and it's only $28 AUD.

Purchasing more hops makes them even cheaper. I have NO idea how much the freight is though, since I have sent 3 messages and have not had a reply.

Did you ever do your USA Hop order yet Pete?

See you tonight if your on for roast pork.

Cheers,
Brewer Pete

Please add me to reserve. Alternatively, if anyone feels a kilo is too much and wants to split 500/500 with me let me know.

Cheers

I would really prefer that this thread does not get into a retailer bashing thread. Pleeaaaaassseeee

Well most were bought in when the Au dollar was much lower. :icon_offtopic:

Wish I had got off my bs and changed a load of US dollars when it was 63c.
I would be rolling in the clover. :(

And most likely hops  I thought about it after as well :( But hey the dollar is up now and may go higher.

I remember last year when there was the great Amarillo scare (shortage) and I bought some Amarillo locally. I bought it when they were at realistic prices and have only just run out. Made a good decision back then. Yes it is a pita for retailers who currently have stock that was bought during the year.

Hey,

Looking at doing a big personal stockup through Hops Direct. Their shipping quote on 10lbs (4.5kgs) is US$87.10 (A$99). Makes the hops on average about A$45/kg landed in Canberra.

Hope that helps.

make your your shipping costs cover all the extra like importing agent's fees etc. if your really serious you should talk to Graham Sanders about all th costs that came up during the Chinese Hop BB.

Last I checked USPO international air freight was around $54-$64 and UP TO 20 pounds. So you want to maximise the weight you push through when paying for premium air freight prices like that. The good thing is you can get them to your door in a week or less sometimes, or a week and a half at the long end of the waiting scale :)

I'd hit them up for Amarillo but probably wait for Peteoz77 as curse him but James' fine Gumball Head was very tasted and uses excessive amounts of Amarillo :p which is fine at normal retail prices around the world but insane at local Oz prices for Amarillo.

happy birthday Peteoz77....but please can you organise another hop bulk buy?

Yes James, pull out the cork :) because pushing 20 pounds through instead of 10 means 1/2 the price of shipping cost per kilo of hops that comes through :p

I've never had to pay "importing agents fees" etc purchasing from HopsDirect ?

No fees for ordering hop pellets from USA if the total value is $1,000 Australian Dollars or LESS.

Remember that Mantra and bring in anything you like from Overseas.

Cheers,
Brewer Pete

Edit: That goes for books, electronics gear, you name it!

I know it should be. My quote when I rang up Hops Direct was $87 for 10 pounds. I'm going to Skype them again tomorrow to ask about using the Flat Rate boxes as that should save some $$$.

I'd (we'd) be interested to hear how you go with that.

Freight quoted on 11lbs via UPS is USD92.25 which equates to just over AUD22.00 a Kilo. Flowers would be more and may be problematic with Australian Quarintine. PM me for more detail

UPS is always a LOT more than USPS.

Overseas companies prefer UPS, because it's easier to track and insure.

I have received a reply.. but not an answer on the price...

I'll order as many as I can to fit into a 20lb package.

Further to this. I checked with this particular supplier, they can only fit 6lbs into a large flat rate box ($53.95). Shipping of pellet hops through them was $87 (10lbs), $123 (15lbs) and $148 (20lbs).

A lot faster too. However, if you're not present when the delivery arrives you'll have to go to where ever the depot is for the courier selected for this end for pickup - very annoying, local post office is much easier.
