G'day ladys and gents,

I just got the 4x 5500w ripple elements I ordered.

All are 10.8 ohm resistance across the terminals, that's all good.
But where the issue is, is that between either terminal and the case/earth terminal 2 are open circuit, all good right, but 2 are 50M ohm, which some times ends up going open and others doesnt. Then when I move the element around and that the resistance to earth changes.

I'm thinking this is probably wrong and presents a possible electrical hazard, or even a constant tripping of the RCBOs that will feed them?

Other then that, I'm using these 2" welldless tri clamp bulkheads to fit the elements into my build, and the element comes pretty close to the bulk head fitting, that shouldnt cause any concerns?

Cheers

So ohms law suggests anything above 8k ohms will consume less then 30mA @240VAC, and thus shouldnt trip out the RCBO?

Still really considering new elements but the seller wount refund them as they say they present no electrical hazard.

Oh well the 200lt brewery builds shall continue.

This week shall see some serious progression

50 Meg Ohms is pretty high, insulation resistance of 1 Meg is the minimum for an installed electrical circuit.

It will probably get higher when they heat up and dry out a bit more

Thanks heaps fot the reply, I wish I had a mega meter to try see if the resistance breaks down with higher voltage.

I woulda thought as they heated up etc the insulation resistance would have reduced.

Let's hope they are ok and that they just work without issue :)

Used some weldless 2" TC bulkheads I found online, with a 48mm q-max punchtheyve fitted up a treat and passed a 24hr leak test ;)

I would not really trust a 179 at such high resistance but it is a good indication, really need a megger as you say if you are worried. I would be suprised if you have any issues.

who is the supplier out of interest?

The weldless bulkhead or the elements?

The weldless elements are from still dragon, they are designed for some flat lid on a still or something but they've worked an absolute treat on my 165lt nano kettel

Were the bulkheads from SD as well, i think they do them?

I had a quick look on ebay but could not see them

Sorry the weldless bulkheads were from still dragon. It's a t500 pot adaptor I think they call it.

The elements are dernord. SD doesnt have 5500w elements unfortunately. I made the dude for the elements an offer of 60 each and he said yes for 4. So they were super cheap, probably wount last long.
