Closed manway.jpgTank 1 bottom drains and manual pump.jpgManway top.jpgSample valve - tank 2.jpgSample valve - tank 1.jpgTwo 500l stainless steel tanks for sale. $500 for both ONO. Pickup only in Wheelers Hill, VIC.

These were orginally designed and built by a business to manufacture 100 year old eggs/century eggs/1000 year old eggs or whatever you want to call them (http://www.odditycentral.com/pics/century-egg-would-you-eat-one.html), and have a manual stainless steel pump attached to the vessel side which was used to circulate the liquid once daily. They are suitable for fermenting beer/wine/cider/mead, which is the purpose to which they were put to by me. I did not use the manual pumps, and can't imagine that they would serve any purpose. They could be removed with an angle grinder if a person was interested, but I just left them.

Each single walled vessel is approximately 130cm (H) X 80cm (W). The tripod legs (with casters that don't work too well) are about 20cms high. The bottom is convex with a small bottom drain. The manways on top are approximately 34cm wide.

While I kept these under positive pressure when I used them for fermentation and aging, I do not know how much pressure they can handle. The trick would be getting the manways adjusted appropriately to not leak gas under higher pressure.

These have not been used for a few years, and are in need of a very good clean and manway gaskets replaced I imagine. The ball valves (one each for the bottom drain, and one near the top of the vertical wall (which could be used for a thermometer, sample cock, contents level, etc) need a good clean. They open and close, but a person may want to replace them.

Overall, these are very solid, and the SS vessels themselves are in decent enough shape. There are scuffs and marks, but not dented or rusted. They are not polished (inside or out), but would come up pretty nice if a person spent the time.

I wouldn't be selling them, but I need the space. These are a very good deal for this type of vessel.

PM me if you have any questions.

Greg

Century eggs are eggs pickled for a period of time. They take a few weeks to make, and they look horrible. The yolk turns green, and the white turns a transluscent yellow/orange colour. I can't say that they taste bad, I've never had one. Obviously some people like them.
