I'm thinking of adding a couple of these 12ltr Cornelius style kegs to my 9.5ltre ones. However not a lot of info about them but did read in a post some years back there were quality concerns particularly with the base "bulging".

Does someone know about the quality now and best place to purchase as many suppliers of kegs etc don't appear to stock them.
Cheers

Cornelius kegs wont bulge! I think it was the early KK Chinese made ones where they pushed the base inwards so they would stand up. The Cornelious and AEB ones have rubber base to make them stand up. Firestone etc have a betal ring welded on) That pushed in base would pop outwards if you put more than 20psi in them? Cornelius ones are meant to take 120 odd psi and I think the PRV is set to 65 odd psi.
I think KK and others have improved the design etc and the latest ones are meant to be much better kegs.
I sold off the spares I had as 18 kegs was a bit overboard, just have AEB 9 litres and cornelious 19 litre ones and about 10 all up.

All except one were bought second hand and cleaned and replaced seals etc.

Thanks for info. Unfortunately KK don't stock them and the couple of retailers that do seem to have only the Chinese one's and with no rubber base. (no psi rating either"

Cheers

Thanks Mardoo. I won't enquire re the 12 litre size as their pricing is just out of anyone's league just for a beer keg.

Cheers and your input is appreciated.

Do be careful where you get them, I went to purchase a 12L purely because it was a few more litres than my 9.5 but was strongly warned against it by the retailer themselves. Cheaper stainless, bad welds, no rubber stand. I can't speak for all 12L kegs that's for sure but I'd definitely enquire as to the type of stainless and the weld quality

Couldn't agree more, I think that's the case and why hardly any retailers are selling them. Perhaps awaiting a proven second hand one will be the go, but possibly a long wait as haven't seen any for sale.
Cheers

Wanna give this chat a nudge, is there any movement on this? I have a tight space Id love to put a kegerator, but all the kegerators available for 19L cornys are too depp for the standard 600 deep space I have, or taller than the benchtop. I can find plenty of bar fridges that we can drill a hole on top of, but they wont fit a 19 litre corny. a 12 litlre corny would be perfect, because you can split your 23l brew down the middle, and fit the keg in a standard bar fridge, but seems noone else has thought of manufacturing these. I guess you can go to a 9 litre, just a pain in the you know where....

I filled one of these (old KK model) with a Christmas brew for a friend on the weekend. I would certainly not recommend those particular kegs. Odd size and shape, poor manufacturing quality, ill fitting disconnects, rust, lots of wasted beer due to shape of the bottom and a dip tube that's too short and pointed at the wrong spot, the list could go on and on ...

IMHO you are better off with a couple of the standard 9L half-size kegs. If there are leftovers, fill up a PET bottle or two for takeaways.
