Help with stout recipe - kit plus malt additions

I too have made this brew quite a few times and it's very very close to their stout. I'm actually going to put one down on the weekend because it's so tasty and I also love a good winter stout. It can foam up through the airlock a bit initially so you can follow the instructions on the Coops...

    London Pubs (and Paris suggestions?)

Sounds like you had a great trip Ken and a ripping pub crawl with Anthony. Thanks for the report, makes me yearn for those long sunny (well occasionaly!) London summer days.

    Coopers Draught Hop Additions

Hi all, Putting down a quickie 'draught' kit to keep supplies going as I've inexplicitly let things dwindle. Going with some ingredients that I already have which are: Coopers Draught Tin 1kg LDME 300gm Dextrose standard kit yeast (to allow a quick ferment)! I have a stash of Hallertau and...

    Coopers stout!

Haha, nice pics. I'm brewing a coopers best extra stout that I'm just about to bottle and it went crazy and blew out the airlock on day 2! Lucky, I was on hand to fix it asap. I used re-cultured pale ale yeast and followed the recipe as per the coopers site. Bottling tomorrow night and my...

    London Pubs (and Paris suggestions?)

Great stuff Ken. Have a good trip mate. Just to echo what other posters have said about Paris, there are lots of cool bars but hey the Frenchys are stylish people. Expect 7 euros for a small beer but u can buy some lovely ales from mini supermarkets (like chimay) for about 1 euro each. This...

    London Pubs (and Paris suggestions?)

London (& the UK in general), is pretty much the home of the pub as we know it. Not sure about Paris though... There are 100's of pubs of varying qualities around the old dart. I was lucky enough to spend 12 months there a few years back. Some favourites with decent beer were. -The Cittie of...

    375ml Glass Bottles

Never used twist top bottles but can certainly recommend the Coopers long neck bottles as they're pretty chunky around the neck. I've only ever broken the cheaper glass long necks that I bought from the LHBS.

    Hop Flower Help

Hi all, First of all, sorry it's been such a long time since I've contributed, but have been busy (OS amongst other things)! A good mate of mine bought 3 hop rhizomes on ebay and 1 of them (cascade I think) went off and produced a heap of flowers in it's first year. Assuming aroma is their...

    Hop Garden

Hey everybody, Did a search on this topic, but didn't turn anything up. Just wondering if anybody out there has experience at growing their own hops? A mate has a new veggie garden and whilst over there the other day suggested that hops would be a worthy addition. We're in the Central...

    Hydrometer Use Query

agree with everything said already. I think it's good to make some notes about the taste and smell when hydrometer readings are done. It will give you a better insight into how it will turn out if you're an impaitent bugger like me. cheers (& beers) Griffo

Second Go @ Using Saflager W34/70

Thanks everyone, Sorry, haven't been on for a while. The boss has put one of those bloody web blockers that blocks everything a man likes in life. Alcohol, gambling & sport! BTW, the brew is going alogn slowly at it's 12 degrees. I hope to be bottling it by the end of the week. I have no...

Second Go @ Using Saflager W34/70

G'day Everybody, Been a while sine I've been a regular contributor to this forum, I've beem o/s for a while enjoying the best of Europe! Coopers Australian Lager

G'day Everyone, Been a while since I've posted, just back from 8 months O/S and it's time to get into the brewing again! On the weekend I came across a can of Coopers Australian Lager from my local supermarket for the bargain price of $7. The problem is I don't know what I want to do with it...

    Storage Of Hops & Yeast

Hey DG & Rough60, Thanks for the help on the yeast and hop procedure. Much Apppreciated. Do I pitch the yeast and leave the fermenter unsealed before I give it a good stir about 30 minutes later? Or do I fit the airlock and simply remove it again to stir the yeast in? Thanks once again...

    Storage Of Hops & Yeast

Hey Everybody, Thanks for the feedback. I have already purchased the POR hop pellets, so it looks like I'm stuck with those. My first couple of brews were OK but maybe a little on the bland side so maybe the POR might give it some bite? Just a few quick questions if I may. Should I still be...

    Storage Of Hops & Yeast

Hello Everybody, Well, after a few straight from the can brews (which tasted alright) I think it's time to graduate to something a little more challenging and add some decent yeast and extra hops. This is the brew I'm going to try. Thomas Coopers Heritage Lagar x 1 1kg light malt Saflager...

    European Vacation....

Devo, All the best with the trip mate. Belgium (generally) is quite mundane, however there is a quaint little tourist town near the French border called Brugge with a working brewery called de halve maan (roughly translated to the half moon). The beer isn't overly exceptional, but it's a fun...

2nd Attempt At Coopers Pale Ale

Hey Guys, I had the first taste of the Pale Ale last night and it's not too bad. The LHBS brew enhancer I used was 1.25kg total containing Dextrose, Light Malt and Maltodextrin. It has quite a strong flavour that wasn't as close to the Coopers out of the bottle that I was hoping for but...
