    Nowra Microbrewery?

Heard about this a couple of weeks ago, but was reminded about it today: Plans for South Nowra Micro Brewery A Zierholz-style brewery+bistro would be nice, can't see it happening in South Nowra though... At worst it could be an extract B.O.P...

    Who Can Identify This Keg?

Hi A mate found some of these kegs in a skip bin still gassed up (but the beer was off.. :( ) I have never seen one like them, but they look like a neat little unit for homebrewing if the coupler was available. Probably holds about 9 or 10L, with a mini Sanke-style fitting on the top. Does...

    Superior Lager Yeast

Was browsing the green board and came across a recommendation to use Superior Lager Yeast in preference to Saflager S23. As it is supposed to originate in Australia, I am wondering if anyone has tried the stuff, or even heard of it?

    Solar Hot Water System Owners

Looking at replacing an electric storage hot water service with something solar powered. I just wanted to hear from people who have swapped over to solar and what they think of it, because it's a fair amount of money even with govt rebates. Also, has anyone got one of the evacuated tube...

    Some Kind Of Stout

This morning I woke up with a strong urge to brew a stout. When I looked at what I had on hand I came up a bit short on traditional ingredients. After reading a recent post by Pint of Lager, I decided I would base it on Munich malt, and whatever black grains I had available. I also got some...

    Ahtanum

Hi brewers, I have a 90g sachet of Ahtanum in the freezer which I am looking forward to trying it out. A lot of the descriptions I have read state that it is similar to Cascade, and from one of Ross's posts I expect strong citrus-like (tangerine?) flavour. I am wondering whether this is a...

    Thomas Fawcett Malts - Substitutes?

Hi Guys, This topic has almost certainly been done before, but I am looking for some links which will help me substitute TF malts (which seem popular in many AHB recipes...) for grains that I can actually get. For example, many of the AHB database recipes use TF choc. I have no idea how dark...

    Acid Rest?

Hi I've been having some problems getting my mash pH low enough (untreated water pH nearly 8...) and during some research on the possible remedies, I wondered whether many people have ever tried using an acid rest (instead of using, say, acidulated malt, or direct acid additions to correct the...

    Help Needed With Brumby Tap

Evening all. I have a mate who just added a third tap to his draught beer setup. He recently bought a third tap (brumby style, from Brewcraft I believe) and expected everything to run smoothly, but no. As I know next to nothing about keg systems I thought I would post the question here and...

Best Adjunct To Beef Up A Belgian

Could I have a few opinions on the best adjunct to increase the alcohol level for a Belgian strong-ale partial please. Some of the options I am considering are: raw/demerara sugar (up to 12%) light honey " golden syrup " I don't have access to candi sugar, and don't want to caramelise my own...

Safbrew T58: What Is This Yeast?

One for the experimenters: Browsing in my LHBS I spotted the SAFbrew T58 on the shelf. Being the curious type I asked the guy in the shop what it's useful for. He wasn't much help. Looking up on the net I found one website which describes it as a "Belgian-style" yeast which produces "spicy...

    Beer Review: Gage Roads Ipa

Hi all, I just sampled my first bottle of the Gage Roads IPA, and without wasting words I thought it was superb! West Coast is definitely leading the way as far as interesting commercial beer in AUS. Has anyone else out there tried this beer and liked it? Cheers  !

Nelson Sauvin - What To Do With It?

My brother donated me a heap of this stuff - and a couple of brews he made with it. Trouble is I find the taste way too much - resiny and green. Maybe he used too much (AA ~10% I think) but what I really want to know is what are other brewers using it for? Can't imagine what it would be good for!
