Back to brewing after a bit of a rest and my first batch back I dabbled in a "little" cube hopping but didn't calculate for the increased bitterness.

I ended up with the following OG 1.041, FG 1.005, 74 IBU, BU:GU 1.8.

Obviously I was shooting for bitter, but not this much. I thought this was a little harsh at first but LTS has taken over and the hop flavour from the cube hopping along with bitterness is immense.

I like it.

How far have you gone?

regards,
Scott

Ps. grain bill is 34% MO, 34% pils, 18% munich, 13% wheat.

I haven't done it, but I have a IIPA coming up which should have quite a high ratio :p (well theoretical anyway)

I which has a BU:GU a hair over 3:1.

Should be fun :p - I think solubility of the bittering compounds tops out around 100IBU though, which means relistically it would be lot lower, like 1.25:1

Good to see you brewing again scott. I did an apa that was 1.050 or so, and 75 IBU. It was obviously bitter haha, but it smoothed out after a week or two. I think if i'd used something other than Simcoe for bittering, it would have been better. My experience with simcoe and 60 min bittering hasn't been great. Probably ( Ok highly likely! ) brewer error though haha

EDIT. A lot of people say that late hopping and no chill brewing gives them a higher finished bitterness. I have never noticed it, but then again i dont put huge amounts in late. And my beers are never usually high in bitterness, so i might not be noticing it.
