I think I stuffed it by being too impatient. I Added an old lager yeast pack for "nutrient".
At least it's fermenting now....
Will keep it going anyway, and see how it turns out in a el-cheapo brew.

Make sure your "cold water" was previously boiled, else your yeast may already be compromised by possible unsanitary conditions before you even pitch it into the wort. The tip about not too much volume by DJR is a good one, also don't make the solution too rich (ie above about 1.040) or that will also make things harder for the culture. I learnt that the hard way...
