Hi,
Just about to do a cider with wyeast cider yeast. It's been advised on a few threads to add yeast nutrient. What isn't evident is how much to add, does it need to be boiled, get added to the wort before yeast?

Any tips
Cheers

If you have Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) you can add it to the boil if you are doing one. There would be no need to boil anything when making cider, I would think, anyway. If you are using Bintani yeast nutrient or Fermaid K, I wouldn't add it to the boil because boiling would probably destroy the vitamins. It's also advisable to make a starter of the yeast. Yes, I know Wyeast and White Labs don't recommend starters and say that you can pitch direct, but it's a good insurance policy to safeguard your investment. Are you using a kit or fresh apple juice?

Shoppe.

It's the yeast nutrient from Craftbrewer. I decided to add it while dumping in the 8 x 2.4L bottles of apple juice. Also added 0.2kg LDME for some body which was boiled in 600ml of water. I didn't use a starter with this one, just tipped it in the fermenter after the pack had swollen and felt like it was going to pop.
