Hi Guys,

Unfortunately, the source I had for the STC-1000 fell through.
Just wondering if anyone has a spare or a non used controller / set up they wish to part with please? :)

Cheers,
Gwavz

Hi carniebrew, Yes! I just want to start the brewing process already. haha :D

I have been waiting years to do something about it. Now I have almost all the kit but would like to have controlled fermentation. (fridge and controller)

Maybe I am a bit too enthusiastic...

I remember when the ones from china were like $4. I bought 5. just in case lol

So it is 17:41 on the 12th May, I have just ordered a STC 1000 from the link above. Lets see how long it takes to come in from Shen Zehn China.

As per a few others have mentioned in other threads recently, that model is heat OR cool only and only 5A

This is the one you'll want if you want both heating and cooling and it's rated to 10A

(I think that's about how much I paid for mine a couple of months ago)

Thanks for that, I thought it looked a bit different, good to know.

The first one I bought took abit to get here too but I this one is not here by Friday I will be chasing it up

Yes, not picking on Beer Belly there, they were just the first local retailer listed when I googled STC-1000 for Australia only. Makes you wonder how local stores can compete when you have to sell items at triple the price of eBay. I also never cease to be amazed at how cheaply things can be manufactured. For an eBay seller to be able to make money when selling an STC-1000 for $15, it means someone's manufacturing them (at volume no doubt) for a fair bit less than that.

If I walked into a local brew shop never having heard of an STC-1000 before, you'd have no trouble convincing me it's the sort of device that's great value at the $50 being charged for it. $15 is the sort of price that makes you think someone must have nicked 'em.

Completely off topic, sorry gwavz...but have you ever properly looked at a PC motherboard? It's one of the most complex looking bits of kit getting around, and you can buy one at MSY for as low as $61. How the hell is anyone churning those things out for less than that?

@carniebrew: Is my ISA bus obsolete now? Or do I get a new AGP video card :) Pentium 3 is still fast enough...
Mass produced, machine made in countries where labour cost is low and components are cheap and won't last as long as they used to.
A friend of mine bought a phone holder for his car windshield for like $1 from China. The sucker sucked for a while, now it doesn't suck. So I suppose it actually does suck.

Anyway, has anyone had a good or bad experience with these?

So I went out this afternoon at 13.20 and sitting on my door step was my STC 1000 from Sen Zehn China. So that make is 13 days, 20 hours and 39 mins for delivery. I am happy with that.

Hi Gwavz I have the 2nd temp controller and it seems alright set the temp you want and then set the temp on how much you allow different before heat or cool kicks in so say it's at 19 and heat at 2 if it drops to 17 it will heat your golden water which on the cool side thought it helps with fridge compressor not starting and stopping every min to maintain temp
