Whilst my kettle is boiling I normally drain my tun into a bucket. Today I had around 2 ltrs left. Can this be used at the end of the boil and cooling process for dilution of the wort where needed?? The og was around 1.030
 
You mean from the mash tun? If so then you'd want to boil it for a few minutes at least.

Yes from my mash tun. I suppose it would make a bit of sense to boil of some of the nasties.
