Hi all, i am attempting my first ever batch of cider, i have some WLP775 liquid yeast to do the job but have a question about making the starter.

I am going to make a large starter of 1.5lt, i have starter on the stir plate at the moment and will run it for 36 hours but just had a thought, the room temp is 15c at the moment and get slower during the night, will this be an issue for the starter?

I think you want that yeast at least at 20c.

"My basement's constant temperature is about 55°F and I see that the optimum fermentation temperature for this yeast is 68-75°F.

You may see a very slow and sluggish fermentation, and there is a possibility of the yeast shutting down entirely. What I would recommend is to get fermentation active in a warmer environment before you place it in your basement, or try a "fermwrap" blanket for the carboy."

I would be trying to get it a bit warmer.

Wrap the whole shebang in bubble-wrap to keep the temperature up/in & you shouldn't have a problem.

Maintaining that during fermentation of the main batch is a different story.
