Hi Guys,

I'm relatively new to brewing, done 2 coopers can brews which turned out quite well.
I'm looking at doing an All Grain next, with a mate who has the setup as I don't have the cash to get my own sorted yet.
We are having a Brew Off in June/July and want to do a winter beer, but trying to avoid Porters or Stouts as that's the norm for the boys.
Do you have any suggestions on what would be a great type for a cold winter night, that isn't too advanced for a noob like me? :)

Beers and Cheers

ESB - Extra Special Bitter. Don't be put off by the name. Special only in name, not procedure :p
Simple:

95% ale malt
5% dark crystal
Fuggles to bitter to 20's, low 30's IBU
Goldings for flavour
English Ale yeast.
Single infusion mash at 66°C for one hour. One hour boil.

If your mate with the AG gear doesnt understand any of this, ask back here for an explanation.

Edit - aim for 4% alc.
