Wine excise was lowered to increase consumption. The wine industry were bleeding not to long ago. Check out the "Marlborough".sayv blanc effect. People still think an nz sauv blanc is flawless. Not true. The region is flooded, but marketing still has people believing the wine is superior. Aussie sauv Blancs can be better than some nasties from nz, its all marketing.
