Speed: This applies to most versions of Windows and most guides have not yet caught up to 10 but they can be applied and work. fine.

1st is to optimise your Internet speed expect quite dramatic speed increases. Download TCP Optimiser http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php then follow this guide. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9pqpQq9HJU .

Windows 10 Use these registry addons in the following and any other tips you like to use..http://www.askvg.com/master-tutorial-to-make-your-windows-8-super-fast/ Apply Registry Tweaks.

Privacy : Lots of concerns about Privacy Go to Settings > Privacy Lots of pages just switch off everything you don't need or ever likely to use. Same with Apps either delete or disable all the rubbish that you don't need. If you use Edge browser there are lots of settings you can change to make it more private.

Customise Appearance : Just a few ways to make the desktop a bit nicer. http://winaero.com/comment.php?comment.news.1836 Get rid of the nasty arrows on the desktop shortcuts and a load of other goodies.
Add a bit of colour to the white bars in the boxes. http://www.windowscentral.com/replace-those-white-title-bars-windows-10-colors-theme

Classic Start 8 adds the old style Win 7 start menu to the taskbar which works with 10 and can be switched on or off. http://www.classicstart8.com/ There is a classic start 10 but I did not find it very good.

Search : I was not very thrilled with Windows file search so added Agent Ransack quick and easy..https://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack

Sound : DFX Sound enhancer makes those MP3s really sing http://www.fxsound.com/dfx/

Antivirus : I like 360 total security has a very 10 like interface don't forget to turn on the Avast and Bit Defender engines which gives 5 different types of virus scanning. http://www.360totalsecurity.com/en/

That's All

Microsoft recently updated its EULA for Windows 10, noting that the operating system can seek out and potentially disable any pirated software, like games, running on your PC. The new clause in question is found under section 7b of the EULA, which says that Microsoft may check your software at any time and download updates or make configuration changes. "We may automatically check your version of the software and download software updates or configuration changes, including those that prevent you from accessing the Services, playing counterfeit games, or using unauthorized hardware peripheral devices.

Going back to windows 7. Definitely not unexpected but performance on my atom based tablet made it almost unusable in regular mode, and was pretty much unusable in tablet mode, even after disabling all the visual bells and whistles. The privacy **** in it is scary as fark too. After reading up on a lot of these so called "features" it is basically giving Microsoft or any of their employees/third parties an open key to your pc. It has also been reported on many tech sites that disabling the privacy options has no effect and your pc still continues to send usage info to Microsoft servers. No thanks. I think i'll pass on a so called "free" upgrade. No corporation should be legally allowed to build spying code into their products. Might trial Ubuntu or opensuse alongside win7 and see how that goes

Well, you can always setup your router to block the address that Win10 servers are on.

Or go Linux B)

For those that were asleep for the last few months then the first major update to 10 came through TH2 or build 10586 and quite a few fixes and speed improvements and Edge is better. Been a few problems with the online update service so it is still better to download the correct ISO from Microsoft and do the update from that.

Nothing until next year when the next big build improvements come out in the Redstone revision. Still have until July 2016 to make the free jump from 7 or 8 so no rush.
Still running 7 very well on my 'build it' comp. which is not connected to the net.

<snip>
I hope you use a VPN or at the least a torrent proxy? It is just a matter of time now before the lawyers get their day. My "pirate hardware" is just a crappy old desktop running Ubuntu, sickrage, couch potato, deluge and a VPN. Flawless hands off commercial free tv. Total cost us$ 60/year for vpn.

Presume by Pirate Hardware they mean 'Fake' My Rolex from Bangkok is Swiss Genuine.

After 2 years at TAFE in 2000 - 2001 the first thing I did after finishing my Diploma was rip out all my Windoze drives from along side the Linux drives in my computers and have since always been happy using the various Linux OS's since. After many years of using Fedora and then Ubuntu I'm now running Linux Mint 1 'Debian Edition' Cinnamon - 64 bit. It's great because it just does continuous updates without having to be completely reinstalled every few years. I have Win7 on a small SSD for various guitar proprietary software programs, but could now really get by without it as KXStudio is a great Linux Distro that has almost everything covered in that area.

What I really like about most of the Linux OS's is that you don't have about 15 different programs firing up telling you need to update them every time you turn the bloody computer on. The software manager just checks in the background and informs you how many updates you can install and you choose what you want or just install them all at once with one click, painless and quick.

Every morning at work the computer goes on, I fill the cash box and turn around to once again tell the computer that no I don't want to upgrade to Windoze ******* 10 now **** off until tomorrow.

I think it's supposed to be better than Windoze 8 and good for those people who are big on social media, but as I'm generally very unsociable it doesn't interest me at all I'm afraid. I nearly exploded the first time I joined Facebook when it came out too find all the people who I'd befriended were updating every two minutes about the most mundane drivel imaginable. I spent about 10 minutes each time I logged on deleting all the **** until after about a week I gave up and deleted my account. One of my mates has 302 on the line friends and I can't imagine how much of his life he wastes reading the **** that gets posted. Sorry, I should really have posted this in the Continuing Rant thread.

People next time you want a computer go to a good computer store and buy all the parts and build your own system, there's nothing to it, it's all plug and play, then install a Linux OS and away you go. If you want to try a Linux Distro out first just get a Live DVD version and boot your Windoze computer up with it and see what you think. You wont be sorry, however fast your Windoze box is when you first get it by the time the virus checker and adblocker software fire up along with all the background programs frantically running around looking for updates, your great new system soon looses its sparkle. :D
