Both my laptop and desktop[ do it on Win7.

You can tell because it stops responding and the HDD light is on solid.

Resource manager shows pagefile as the culprit

Bit odd unless you are using very memory hungry applications 30+ tabs open in Firefox. or lack of ram. Better to fix the size of the pagefile rather than let the system adjust the size on the fly. It's main use is to store the memory dump when Windows crashes. I think 10 might utilise memory allocations a bit better than 7.

I guess if you like Linux though you will stick with what you know and are accustomed to.

windows 10 comes with explorer but it seems deliberately slow compared to when opening the same websites with their new edge browser.

leave you little choice but to dump explorer. Switched to edge for all browser activity, no issues so far....

I have windows 8 on at the moment and have 10 downloaded ready to install.

After hearing about flashing desktop icons, the odd blue screen of death and googling "windows 10 issues" I reckon I will wait a while.

I will be sticking with windows 7 on my laptop until its either dead or support is killed off. May upgrade my windows 7 tablet for the hell of it. But i dont use the laptop that often or even the tablet unless its brew day. Android phone does everything else I need on a daily basis

Yes, windows10 is out ready for general public beta testing. My experience with MS is they got every 2nd os release right. What happened to 9? It was going to be the next right one? No lets skip 9 and release our next disaster.

I'm impressed so far with the upgrade on my Asus Transformer (tablet with click-on keyboard) it runs faster than Win8 and boots up a lot faster. My desktop at work is pretty much dedicated to graphic design sofware and I'll be sticking to Win7 on that one. Anyone using MYOB 'may' encounter display problems with the cloud version, I did but with enough fiddling of the display settings it's fine now. BTW, if you want a nice accounting program with more bugs than all the Windows versions put together, get MYOB, the most counter-productive bit of software I have ever come across.

I keep my win7 very lean. Only what I need is on there and none are memory hogs.

Both machines have the same programs. Page file size is 4Gb..

If Win10 is still running NTFS ( a now 17 year old file system) there really is no point in upgrading (if that's what they want to call it).

Don't recall the file system ever being a problem no matter how old it is. The upgrade to ReFS is still about a year away and should be Self Healing or so they say.. Could always use Ext2Fsd if you are a Linux nut and desire open source.

As for 10 not being an upgrade Significant SSD, thread handling and GPU parallelism improvements under the hood makes it easily a better experience than previous Windows OSes ....

Cannot give a valid critique and overall slagging if you have not even tried it. Bit like saying don't like stout before tasting any. :kooi:

We are getting a lot of calls about Windows trying to basically force people to upgrade

Considering the hundreds of millions of computers worldwide connected to the web and Microsoft offering support for at least 3 operating systems with new updates coming out at least once a week the mind boggles at the logistics and it all works fairly smoothly most of the time. I see they have not launched Service Pack 1` for 10 yet expected 10th Aug.

See Mint 17.2 is out seems pretty good too from reports.

They didnt release Win9 because they didnt want the confusion over Win95

Currently have Window7 on my laptop, Windows10 files have been downloaded however awaiting notification to install. Since the app has been downloaded behind the scene Windows7 is now running so slow and a number of web sites (eg Gumtree) keep "not responding" and need to be recovered. Has anyone else had a similar problem and if so has it corrected once Widows 10 has been installed.
Cheers

Ive decided i will install it on my win7 tablet as win7 i find isn't really that tablet friendly. Will see how it goes

I installed it overnight. Keen to give it a run after I drop the kids off at the pool...

I don't use my laptop for anything but browsing and beersmith really so didn't mind upgrading. I just hate using tablets and phones for browsing and typing, especially since I just run the laptop through the bedroom TV.

My Laptop was similar. You might be waiting a long time for the notification notice. Go to Windows Update if it says ready to install you are ready to go. Make sure you are connected to the internet and have about 3 hours to spare it can be really slow . It also downloads all the updates before installing the OS ( strange ) Just leave it alone and it will get on with the job unaided.

I quite like 10 now after a few days to get used to it and added a few tweaks to personalise it + still using Chrome mainly as it has extensions I use mostly. Edge is fast though for surfing. I think you will find it an improvement over 7.

If interested can add a list of tweak programmes I used to spice it up a bit.

Thanks Tropical_Brews, will take you up on tweak programmes after I've installed windows10. (Just waiting the go ahead ).
Cheers

GodMode still works for Windows 10 :)
Just create a new folder and call it... GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
