Hi Guys,

Being pretty new to AG, I haven't really gained enough knowledge yet of the flavours different grains will impart. I was originally going to try making a pseudo pilsner with US05 (no temp control yet) and so I meant to pick up 6kg of pilsner malt but accidentally managed to take home 3kg of pils and 3kg of pale malt and I don't know what to make with it now.

So I have the following:

3kg Pils
3kg Pale
1kg Vienna
250g Carapils

And these hops:

100g Hersbrucker
100g Hallertauer
80g POR

Just wondered if anyone has an idea of what I could make. Can I still try to make the Pilsner and if so what proportions of these grain should I go for? Or should I just get some more pils and use the pale malt for an ale of some sort.

Cheers

Who cares what its called. Back off the Pale a bit and ferment with a Lager yeast and I dont know what u could call it but it would be a great beer.

LOL, I had a feeling someone would say that :)

Yeah I'm thinking I'll just have a go and see what it turns out like. Hopefully I'll learn something along the way. Thanks.

Maybe an aussie "Strong Premium Ale"

3kg Pils
3kg Pale
1kg Vienna
250g Carapils

POR at 60min for 20IBU's
1 gram per litre of Hallertauer to flavour around 15-20mins

Yeast Either US56, Coopers Culture or Aussie Ale?

Ditto that. Us 56 and try to keep at below 18.
personally don't like coopers yeast that much.

OK cool, thanks for the idea. I was looking for an easy drinker so maybe not quite that strong. I wasn't sure what this would fall under but it seems to fit a Blonde Ale. How does this look?

Hi Poida - If the grain you got was Aussie Malt from Cryer - Barrett Burston maybe - then the Pale Malt is Pilsner malt. Don't fret too much. Make your pilsner. At least you will be able to compare it to the 'u beaut' one you make when you have temp control. :D

Cheers. Hoges.

You can send a sampler to me :D
