Wanted: Grain Mill

if just using a drill to power the mill, is there any point to the 1/2" shaft?

Not that I can see

is there any issues with getting it though??? Im only planning on using an electric drill, but thought it might be useful for $10 to upgrade in case I motorise later on. The drill will still work with a 1/2 inch shaft wont it?

*added 1/2 inch shaft - seems to be a theme with adelaideans

@ citymorgue2 you will need a 13mm chuck with 1/2 inch shaft - most cordless drills are only 10mm

I recommend future proofing your mill and adding the 1/2" option. JIC you decide to motorise later.

It's 24volt, so you'd probably want batteries. It's a bit fast, so you'd probably want to chain drive it (there goes the kid's bike), but these motor things might just be useful enough once you've taken delivery...

That's the one I use, hooked up to a 12 volt battery it does about 160 RPM and has enough torque to do a standing start with a full hopper. Crushes 4 kilo of grain in under 1 minute on my Monster Mill.

Last question

If you do the 1/2" upgrade - do you get both shafts?

As I have a 10mm chuck, I obviously need a 3/8" shaft and if I upgrade and only get the 1/2" shaft, I have no drill to move it?

Mine is direct drive using a spider coupler to join the two shafts.

I'm a firm believer in the "KISS" principal, and yes it was TOO easy :lol:

heres what im planning. simply and im sure i'll bugger it up.

Mill mounted over bucket thingy. Bracket mounted near mill so I can just just slot drill in and turn it on and leave it going (I can set speed on my electric drill).
