We'll I'm with you there but I think if he just announced the reason nationally he would resolve the issue. I mean they can't watch everyone in the country can they??

I actually know a bloke who does some work with the CIA......

True story......but a very boring story

I think I'm already on the CIA watchlist for some of the things I've been looking up relating to this
[don't laugh, I AM on a CIA watchlist for other technical reasons - don't ask how I know - it's part of the reason :) ]
If you really want to get yourself on a watchlist quickly, send a few requests for information on availability of Zirconium tubing.

On a slightly related note: I use boron fibre* in the bikes. It's only made by one company in the US and before they'd let me buy any I literally had to sign a declaration that I would not re-sell it to North Korea.

*It's a bit like carbon fibre but stronger in compression, has better acoustic properties and is about 8 times the price.

But Officers, I swear I'm only making a small reactor for personal use!

We used a little bit for industry specific heating elements
The company I did my engineering design traineeship for had a 6M length of large diameter Ti tube sitting up on the storage mezzanine while I worked there (about 11 years ago)
I was told they got it super cheap and were hanging onto it until the titanium price peaked (it was up over $25/kg scrap price back then) then they were going to sell it

You've probably heard the story of David Hahn, if not Google "radioactive boy scout"
I'm inspired. I'm going to build a self-heating brew kettle with a fissionable uranium element.
