Lael,

I'm going to be using the controller with an existing urn, and I wasn't planning on changing the wiring/plug (standard 3 pin aussie plug).
So i'm wondering about the neutrik connectors.

Will the kit come with a socket and plug (male + female) ?
Have you seen a neutrik male to australian socket adapter anywhere?

Good question CapnK,

I haven't. But, if it is a standard urn, you can just buy a clipsal power lead from a hardware store / similar wire the neutrik to that and plug the urn cord into that. Will that work for you? (ie - make an adapter the length you want by wiring it up).

That's what I was planning to do, on the assumption the kit contains both the socket and a plug.

Oh yeah, it contains sockets and plugs for all the power in and out connections.

Quick Update - the enclosure people are dragging their feet. However! the PCB is somewhere on the way over here. I'll post pics once I've tested it.

What I *have* received is part of the 'no solder' solution - custom cables I've had made for the buttons! Woohoo!
I wasn't sure if it was possible, but I"m confident now the kit will be entirely solderless. Woohoo! The LEDs will also be on PCB terminals, I'm getting them custom made into Dupont female connectors (same as the other end of the custom cables) which means you can swap them out for some other solution if you want to. I'll post photos to show you when I receive the PCB.

(Edit: I've even gotten the cables color coded - red for heat, green for pump and white for buttons :) )

Here's some pics:

CustomButtonCables1.jpg

Note the minor problem - if the buttons are where they are currently located the spade connector for the button gets in the way of the pcb terminal connectors.
CustomButtonCables5.jpg

Solution 1: bend the spade connectors gently
CustomButtonCables2.jpg

Solution 2: I can move the buttons down, which will give more space, but they will be further from the LCD (this is an example from the original board. I'll take more photos when I get the real PCB.

Any thoughts?

Lael

I am keenly flowing this and am tempted to jump on the list.

Given that this thread is now at 35 pages its hard to find a succinct answer for what the controller is/does.

After a bit of foraging this appears to be a succinct post about what it is

And this one is explains what the current list is for - I wonder how many people read to post title and think they are signing up for a $30 deal?

Hope this helps anyone jumping into this thread now and save them reading all 35 odd pages

Just a bit of feedback that might make it clearer - perhaps you could get a mod to change the title or split this from you post #442 onwards into a separate thread.

Hi Paul,

I don't think anyone has put their name down without reading back to figure out what it is, and it has been mentioned a few times. I was looking at the title when I posted this morning and wondered how confusing it is for new people. I'll chat to a mod about it.

Just be aware that the $145 was wrong. That was before I'd remembered to include the costs for the heatsink, new sockets, temp probe. Once I've got final pricing on everything (pretty much have it all just waiting on the box and a quote on the new PCB design) I'll update the price. I've been asked for a ballpark, and the answer is - I'll give you the right price once I have it all. It will be more than the 145+ shipping. (I think a $15 satchel from AusPost will handle it).

Cheers,

Lael

Hi Lael, do you have an idea of the size and weight of what each parcel would be, I maybe able to source a better rate from Post for you?

Another vote for moving the buttons lower.

Moving them away from from the LCD will also probably make it easier to read. Thinking that if the buttons are back lit then glare/reflection from the buttons could make the LCD hard to read if too close.

Looking great.
