Hi All,

After making a few batches of lager I have just figured out by research they need to be cold femermented rather then 23degrees... Probably explains why it tastes funny.

My question is, does anyone know generally what temp beer needs to be brewed at and any special considerations that need to be made for each?

Ie. Lager - Fermented at 13degrees, put into cold storage for a month then bottled?

Ale, draught, cider.. etc

Thanks

Jase

Depends on yeast strain. Lager yeasts ferment around 10-13C while most ale yeasts like 18-22C.

Chances are that if you have been using kits and the yeast that came with these, it is an ale yeast, so fermenting these at low temps will not work. The lager kits are not really lagers, but a lager style ale.

Using better ingredients such as malt extract and decent yeasts fermented at the right temp will give good results.

For specific temperatures, check the website of the yeast.
