The above mentioned acronym [She Who Must Be Obeyed] is often thrown around on this forum but I wonder how many take it seriously? Appeasing a bitch will only make a relationship worse not better. If you are wondering about a marriage/relationship on the rocks why not have a look at an excellent blog: http://dalrock.wordpress.com

The acronym SWMBO is fukin shithouse. Never used it, never will, never even heard of it until I found this forum, wish I never did.

She Who Must Be Obeyed, seriously, for men who make and drink beer, why so scared of your partners huh? If it were a knitting forum I'd understand a little better.

Got to agree Shaun.

Its an old term.

I have never regarded a partner as some one who must be obeyed.....even if I went out and got shit faced and had trouble negotiating the cat flap in the rear screen door.

Its a term that is somewhat derogatory to the younger folk, espcially those who treat a partner as an equal.

But when you **** up.......

Appeasing a bitch? Come on man, there are female brewers on the forum and attitudes like this is probably what keeps more from getting involved.

I have always assumed people understood this term was used "tongue in cheek" and rarely literally.

Guess not.

Really, an acronym is such a big problem? It's a term of reference not a law, FFS, usually used by those that are comfortable in their relationship.

It's a shithouse term, and I knew people didn't use it literally.

There is plenty of other terms to use, how the hell did this one come about.

Just asked my wife her thoughts on the term, her exact reply 'Are they all gays?', baaahahahaha. Funny little SWMBO.

My rants over, carry on men...

I like the term 'Minister of War & Finance', even the Mrs got a giggle outta that one

I should have commented that my comment was made in jest as is Lloyd's song.

I generally call Anna "er indoors", but thinking on it, that is probably a throw-back to sexist attitudes where women did the inside work and men did the outside work. Sheesh, can't win.

Maybe I'll just call her Anna.. Or Banana as I do sometimes. Occasionally Spanner when I feel like getting in trouble. he he..

I have no issue with the term itself or any other term when it is used in jest. Just when any kind of derogatory terms are used against any section of society be it gender, sexual preference, race or whatever and used with vitriol.

Sidenote: I use the term "the warden"

Don't you mean the Minister for War and Recreation?

Catch ya at Roches for a beer. Ill be be the one at the bar without the pathetic poor mans porn mo..

The term was first coined by H. Rider Haggard in the adventure novel She, published in the late 1800's. It was made famous by the BBC character Rumpole from the 70's comedy of the same name. Rumpole called his wife Hilda She who must be obeyed. As I remember it, it was used as a term of endearment. Different times I suppose.

Cheers,

Andrew.

Recreation is what happens when she's not being a minister
