Its an old term.

I have never regarded a partner as some one who must be obeyed.....even if I went out and got **** faced and had trouble negotiating the cat flap in the rear screen door.

Its a term that is somewhat derogatory to the younger folk, espcially those who treat a partner as an equal.

I have always assumed people understood this term was used "tongue in cheek" and rarely literally.

Really, an acronym is such a big problem? It's a term of reference not a law, FFS, usually used by those that are comfortable in their relationship.

There is plenty of other terms to use, how the hell did this one come about.

I should have commented that my comment was made in jest as is Lloyd's song.

I generally call Anna "er indoors", but thinking on it, that is probably a throw-back to sexist attitudes where women did the inside work and men did the outside work. Sheesh, can't win.

Maybe I'll just call her Anna.. Or Banana as I do sometimes. Occasionally Spanner when I feel like getting in trouble. he he..

I have no issue with the term itself or any other term when it is used in jest. Just when any kind of derogatory terms are used against any section of society be it gender, sexual preference, race or whatever and used with vitriol.

The term was first coined by H. Rider Haggard in the adventure novel She, published in the late 1800's. It was made famous by the BBC character Rumpole from the 70's comedy of the same name. Rumpole called his wife Hilda She who must be obeyed. As I remember it, it was used as a term of endearment. Different times I suppose.
